Allergy’s

Dog having a hard time this spring and summer. She sneezes, rolls in grass, scratches etc. does any body have this issue and if so what do you give your dog. Claritin, Kenalog, supplements, specific dog food, etc? Any advice will help. Thanks

Benadryl helps. 1/mg per lb of dog. That's more than the human dose. If it's not enough, your vet can give the dog Apoquel or Cytopoint. That's pretty pricy, but the Cytopoint is a shot that can last for months.
Some hounds are allergic to chicken or other foods, but they are usually mostly itchy on their feet and bellies.

Someone else mentioned zyrtec which is what we use. If they get really bad and start affecting tracking ability then I have the vet administer an allergy shot. He gives either depo-medrol or kenalog and antibiotics for a week or so in the case of sinus infection.

Does Benadryl make the dogs drowsy. Yeah I’m giving her Claritin now and she’s not treeing enough Coon. Acts like she can’t smell. I’ll try Zyrtec and might give her a kenalog shot.

Yep it knocks them out, I only use it if a pup gets bee stung it works super fast for that. I don't use the dog shots because of the side affects, they are really bad for dogs and not for long term use (Apoquel or Cytopoint). Most of the reviews I have read (100's of them) say they only work for 3 to 5 days anyway.
