Redbone line with the best locate?

Which redbone line of dogs has the best locate in your opinion? Not just how quick they locate....but how decisive and impressive?
I love a 1-3 bark locating dog that doesn't hit up a lot...but when you hear that dog locate the tree.....you can put him on the scorecard and he quickly changes over to a steady chop on the tree. I have hunted against quite a few walkers in competition that have awesome locates...but rarely draw other redbones in competition hunts outside of breed days hunts. So what line is putting that really impressive locate in its offspring?

Shane

I've hunted with alot of good red dogs & I never had one that locates like Toby does. Most of the time it's that long drawn out out horn & then rolls it into a perty nice chop. I see that alot in the Walker breed from the trackman pups that I hunt for Tony Ray.

I also thought Toby had a nice locate when I drew him. I remember drawing a walker dog back around 1990 named nocturnal nailor and thinking that he had the longest, loudest, most impressive locate I had ever heard....and still is to this day.

My Autumn female has a nice locate. She is Ttop on the top, Razor Red, and Ratliffs Outlaw Dixie on the bottom. She has a triple chop locate and roles over into a steady chop. She is the type you can put on the card on her locate.

I also had a male pup out of Moose and Frog that had a dieing bawl locate and then ruled into a chop. I loved his deep mouth and that locate. He got hit by a car at 13 months old. I would have really liked to have seen how he would have finished out.

Rambling Red Little Zack had the loudest prettiest locate that I have ever heard on a hound! It was a true foghorn locate. It sounded like one of the tugboats on the Tn River when he located. Unfortunately he did not pass it on to Sally but Sally passed it on to Moose? Hollar Oak Pearl (out of Steve-O X Chilli) had the easiest locate to call. She did not open much on track and gave a high pitched triple locate. When she gave that triple chop, you could tree her. It is really a lot of fun when you can do that and don't have to wait for them to "settle in". Unfortunately, she died before we could breed her to Moose.

Not sure you can pin that feature on any certain strain or line, when it comes to great locates, because I've heard so many non-similarities coming from the same strain.

I love nothing better than a long dying bawl locate flipped over to chop. We had one that still sticks out above all others we've ever owned when it comes to such a locate. This hound was from the Fireball Strain of hounds. The only negative with that 'un-denying' nice feature is in competition when someone else has no problem with jumping on the bandwagon....first. One of those cost me a win at the Winter Classic many moons ago, when it came down to the wire, against a well-known handler and hound. Guess I've never quite forgave or forgot. lol.

It is very frustrating in a night hunt when another handler can call your dog better than you can. I guess that we have all been there.

Allen, I hate that as well, I have someone try that on me once... Bit him in the tousch cuz if she didn't throw three, and only three, she wasn't staying but jumped on the first one... Then she was off lol

My old Ashley female used to have a bawl/chop (5-8 chop) thrown 3 times rolled over into triple chop and I loved it, she had a short bawl on track with that very unique locate.
Her son had a DYING bawl locate, higher pitched but comparable to the trackman locates.

I have notices that the outlaw strain throws dogs with a triple or more chop locate or a bawl locate once in a while... But then again some of them dont have a locate at all

Interesting Lizz that you suggest many of the Outlaw dogs had triple chop locates. I drove up to the Keys in the middle 90's and bought a female from Teresa out of Jesse James and Sprite. She had a very unique triple chop locate.

I would agree that a lot of dogs from the outlaw line have that triple chop locate...especially the females. My Breanna female that goes back to Outlaw Moon on the top through Doc and Billy the Kid through Kate and also on the bottom through Kate has a short ball that ends with a choked down triple chop locate. I like it .....when she throws it, but if she is on a hot track with dogs on her heels she doesn't always throw it and may just start chopping on the tree without letting out a locate. Aftershock has an awesome locate....especially when he is alone or hits the tree ahead of the other dogs....its a loud dying bawl squall followed by a fast steady chop.
I recently hunted with Tim Grigsby and his Fireball bred male (can't remember what he called him) and he sure did have a nice locate and looked to be a nice hound all around.
The Brit dog who is a litter mate to Breanna has one heck of a locate on her for a female.
My old Billy the Kid dog had a long drawn out unique squal/bawl that was easy to hear, pick out and call him treed on. His half brother, Outlaw Red Moon had a big long dying bawl locate that alot of people really liked.

The Rat x Raven dogs I hunted with had a good bawl locate. My buddy Mark's Booner dog was awesome.....swear he had to back up a couple steps to get it out. My dogs all have good locates. Long bawl locate then a steady chop on the tree.

Jeb throws 2 or 3 BIG dying bawl locates when he hits a tree and you can put him on the paper when you hear it too. From what I've heard and seen his pups almost all have a nice dying bawl locates too. IMO its not that uncommon to find a dog that throws a big locate. The uncommon factor is finding a dog that only uses it when they hit a tree to stay.

Locate is important.

GRNTCH Browns OK Red Twister and GRNTCH Yellow River Rocky were half brothers out of GRNTCH Meltons Fireball. Both Twister and Rocky had and reproduced big bawl mouth locates. My Huey dog had a big screaming bawl locate, you could tree Huey as soon as he started the scream. Huey passed this on to several of his pups. Huey was a son of Twister and Grandson of Rocky through Music. Music also had a great screaming loud locate.
Our Flow female (Steve-O and Chili) that we have now has a nice big bawl locate then a triple chop. We're planning a cross in the near future that could produce some more big locates. We'll see.
A big loud mouth and a locate that you can tree a dog on is a must for us, especially if going to competition hunt a dog. No fun to handle a dog in a hunt that is hard to hear or hard to pick out in a cast.

I hear ya on that one. What was crazy to me is how that Ann female I had out of Twister sounded just like Music. I don't know about pretty sounding but when your hound sounds like it got rolled up by a car and drug down the street for It's locate you don't have any trouble telling which one is yours or with people try to claim it's their hound.
