Any word on who the bench show judges will be for the Grand American? It will be here before you know it.

I've always wondered why the judges are announced for the these major shows? I was talking to a friend of mine the other day about beagle field trials and why they announce the judges before hand. Some people will not show up according to who the judge is. So does that mean that its all about preference on the judges part? If it was all judged strictly by the rules it shouldn't matter?

Are there "rules" for how to pick a bench show winner? I always thought that it just all depended on what the particular Judge "thought" a hound was supposed to look like. If they all have straight legs and tight cat feet then what do you do? Is there a rule that says a stocky muscled up heavy chested dog should be placed over a slim trim one that floats along. Isn't it just the judge's preference? I have seen 3 day Breed Days where 3 different judges picked 3 different dogs.

wjoey - if you agree with joey post then if your tag on your post is true then how did you win with your horse?. was it judged by a computer or by judge's opinion on how your horse performed. see horses were a big part of my life also.
FINAL- comment on this topic I was lucky enough to win the overall world bench show twice and I know da%^^$# well there was NO BIDING taken place in my winning, so u see I 'm not going to sit by the side and let these comments go without a challenge you see they were and still are very important wins to me. and were not tarnished in any way. FINISHED with this topic, by BIDDING that was insulting to me now you see you have accused me of being a crook.

Judges are announced, at major events, for technicalities. Say judges aren't announced so you bring a certain dog. You travel all that way and enter the show, then it comes time to hit the ring and turns out that judge is the breeder or previous owner or even a good friend of yours. You can't show. You drove all that way, spent all that money, paid your entry fee, and now you're out of luck.
There would be a number of shows in the past I wouldn't have been able to show in had I not known who was judging.

That said, Jamie Crigger is judging Friday (Duals, Pairs, Open). Mike Seets is judging Saturday (Champions, Grands, Overall). Rebecca Soxs is judging the Youth Show on Saturday.

I hope you go show one of those coon treer's and win. Why do coon hunters have to pre enter with no exceptions but show people can enter on the grounds at the big hunts, never have understood that one.

For the shows, it doesn't matter how many dogs show up. If it were 2 or 200, the show would be the same.
However for the hunts, they need a count of dogs due to guides and satellite clubs. For the Breed Days, RQEs, or State Championships, not enough dogs show up to require pre-entries. But for the Grand American, Winter Classic, and Autumn Oaks where you're looking at hunting 500-1000 dogs, they have to work out satellite clubs, guides, and of course the wait list. It would be almost impossible to do day-of entries, and would be a total cluster.

But Hobo's are flashier with all of that white on them. Maybe he will show one of his at the Grand American this year. They have a special class for dual champions so that you don't have to go up against little Phee Phee.
