For the shows, it doesn't matter how many dogs show up. If it were 2 or 200, the show would be the same.
However for the hunts, they need a count of dogs due to guides and satellite clubs. For the Breed Days, RQEs, or State Championships, not enough dogs show up to require pre-entries. But for the Grand American, Winter Classic, and Autumn Oaks where you're looking at hunting 500-1000 dogs, they have to work out satellite clubs, guides, and of course the wait list. It would be almost impossible to do day-of entries, and would be a total cluster.
