Porcupines

What is the best way to teach a dog about off game.(PORCUPINES)......there is ....DEER sent ....FOX sent ... but no PORCUPINE SENT ..... that i know of.... to train dogs off of this animal.....Catching the dog in the act would be the best thing but you and I know this is impossible..finding one dead on the road to use for teaching ....but not always seen on the road.....HELP ...THANKS

Take some daytime walks in the oaks rite now watch the trees look for piles of clipped branches on the ground under trees. Second place is apple trees rite now same look for clipped branches they like Rocky areas with softwood close to food there scat looks like big rabbit scat and usually in piles. Daylight and dusk are the best time to catch them moving. See it and shock the dog on the scent is the best way I know and that doesnt always work they are tuff to deal with. Oh ya when you find them typically there in the same spot day in day out. . You can trap them in a boxtrap its tough apples seem to work for bait. I hope this helps some good luck.

No problem I understand the problems they cause vet bills can add up. Squirrel hunting is a great way to find porcupines I shoot alot while squirrel hunting.

OH YA 2 TIME HE GOT INTO PORKIES AT A COST OF 450 A POP..FIRST WAS A BABBY ...A MOUTH FULL OF NEEDLES...THIS TIME ADULT IN THE SIDE OF HIS MUSSEL...THIS SPORT CAN GET VERY EXPENSIVE...THOSE YOU TRY TO PULL THEM OUT YOUR SELF BUT SOME TIMERS YOU JUST CANT...DO TO THE THRASHING AROUND...

I can do it usually my self unless they swallow them if that happens its a vet visit for sure.
