Thinking of moving down south

My wife and I have been thinking of moving to a more southern state as of late. Just wondering how job and housing markets are in different areas. We were maybe looking at somewhere in Virginia.

Whats your occupation?

I have done a little of everything. I have ten years experience in precast concrete culverts, three and a half years in grain elevator, and currently a year and a half in the railroad. Also did carpenter and meat cutting durin layoff seasons

I have found that the people are a lot friendlier in the western mountainous part of the state. There is more money and probably more jobs in the eastern part, but the people don't seem as friendly or accepting there. They all smile but have this strange limp noodle handshake that says "you might as well get lost" or "you will never belong here." Maybe it has another meaning, but it is strange to me either way. Rockingham County VA

I am in Rockingham County VA. I have been the Chief Estimator for a Large Electrical Company for 8 years now and the construction industry is booming more right now more than I have seen in the last 8 years. There is serveral concrete, precast, and excavation companies that are always hiring.
Most all construction companies are hiring.
Norfolk Southern Railraod is in the area. I am not sure if there is any jobs to be had though.
The area is a large agricultural area with dairy, beef and Poultry being the main leader.
My wife is a local Realistate Broker that could help you finding a residence.
As for the Coon hunting, it is hard to find locals to let you coon hunt on the farms unless you have known them for a while. Also not many coon hunters in the area. Mainly Bear hunters, which is great for me cause I only Coon Hunt.
The area has huge tracts of National Forest to hunt though. Rockingham County and the Neighboring Augusta County have some of the most National Forest land in the State of VA. No trouble finding coons to hunt.
If you are a Bear Hunter then Rockingham County has the most bear kills per county in Va.

What's wrong with North Dakota? I was thinking on grttin a job transfer to north or South Dakota maybe Idaho or Montana.....I guess I could ask the same question as far as work and housing market

North Dakota isn't too bad. Housing is pretty high. But if a person is willing to work there is work everywhere. I am just looking at wanting something different. I would actually rather move to Alaska but the wife won't have that so I am really into the out doors and if I can't move to Alaska then I want to move somewhere I can fish all year

If you dont mind limp noodle hand shakes Va. Beach has good fishing, fresh water and salt. Hunting is not the best but a 45 minute ride west the hunting does get good.
Expensive to live here but there is a lot of work

Consider moving to East TN.......If you meet somebody you like down here and make friends he has about 1,000 more cousins to choose from LOL Got Mountains, rivers, and lakes lol Mississippi river on one end, Appalachians on the other lol
