how would you score this

had my handler hunt riddick in the rqe last week he told me riddick had split twice the first one treed him could tell he was in a hole barked a couple times shut up put the 2 on him he broke it they moved in closer and he got the coon out of the hole and was fighting it so they plused the strike no tree point went on later in the hunt he split agian he was in a creek swimming around the coon the coon was not in a tree he was just swimming aroud it plused strike after a cople days someone told me there is a new rule on this if the dog catches a coon on the ground strike and tree are plused is that right

3 Points will be plus
(a) When dogs strike and tree and coon is seen during shine time only:
(1) by a non-hunting judge;or
(2) by a majority of the cast when hunting judge is used.
(b)When a dog is declared struck and treed and coon is seen other than in a tree,dog declared treed will receive strike and tree points,dog not declared treed,strike points only.
(c)If a dog catches a coon strike points only.

If the coon was in the water still swimming and the hound was swimming around it. The track was still open, unless your handler called him treed. If handler called him treed, that is not a hole(In water circling) but must be considered place of refuge. Judgement call.

b dog declared treed and coon is seen other than tree. Swimmin coon seen should have tree points if your handler called him treed.

coon swimming in water to me means the dog has not finished the track. He needs to push him out of the water and either catch him or tree him.I would not score this coon until he did something with it.

Dog was declared treed both times larry that is the way i read it but it is kind of a gray area if you ask me

Ain't that the truth Joe! Advisor says strike points only if coon is "caught or bayed"...how do you define bayed?

Had a moh tell me that at least one dog has to be making physical contact with coon when judge arrives, otherwise any dogs called treed are eligble for their tree points...

Give me a call sometime if you're ever bored & wanna bs...

Yes I have seen this happen before. The Hound is actually baying the coon that refuses to move much out of one area of water(swimming circling) It is considered a tree if the dog is stationary enough (bay type treeing). Like I say, it is a judgement call and depends on what judge you have.
If the judge and cast walk up to the water and the coon is swimming in a direction 'A' to 'B', track is still open. But if it seems to be a place of refuge what the coon thinks is(and judge)(and majority cast). The dog baying it is considered treed and plus pt.s if called treed. And if he hasnt caught it or put his teeth in it.
AM I RIGHT OR AM I WRONG ON THIS? HELP US OUT UKC!

Roof Monkey Now I see where advisor said and I get that now. Coon is not in a tree so if bayed considered to have caught the coon? Rule "b'' coon is seen other than in tree. I agree kind of a gray area.

Rule 5 (a) NOTE. To me I interprete that as coon seen Plus pt.s. Not circled or deleted.

I think a key word in this gray area is ''end of chase'' in NOTE 5 (a).
The rule speaks of circle or delete when coon not seen, so you have the opposite if coon seen. (Plus)

1st scenario , strike points plus & delete tree . 2nd scenario is the same , strike points plus & delete tree . The hound was swimming around the coon , keeping him ( coon ) there . But the coon was seen before the shine time therefore you delete the tree points in both cases . JMO So to answer your question I think your MOH got it right .
