Top Gun

Whats it he producing not heard a lot of his pups

Posted by Paul Frederick on 05-21-2013 02:03 PM:

I hunted with one the other night that Larry owns. NITECH PR Wilcox' Thunder Gunsmoke. I think Larry said he is 16 months old. Nite Champion, 1 win towards Grand and qualified for the World. He has a litter mate that is a Nite Champ as well.

Big, houndy, good-looking red and white dog. Loud mouth, real nice tree dog. We just made 2 trees with him as Larry said he wasn't acting right (couldn't prove it to me I thought he acted fine but I don't know the dog). Treed on the edge of a pond on a big wooly-booger tree we didn't see, second tree he popped a layup we did see and did a fine job.

This is just one pup though on one night. I will say I liked him. Thing that impressed me most is he has sense. When you get him out of the truck he acts good. I don't know if I'm explaining myself right or not but you know how some pups will act stupid when they get out of the box? Smoke doesn't, he has sense. Cut him loose (both drops were solo) and he hunted from that very spot, looking for something. He's not afraid of the dark. First track was a little longer but both times he had to go hunting to find a track.

Like I said, I liked him. Of course then Larry got old Gun out and I really liked him. Did a great job during three drops! He ran three totally different types of tracks in three different types of terrain (one around a big swamp which he had to grub out) and looked good.

You have to remember most of Gun's pups are fairly young as well. The majority of the litters out of him were whelped after January 2012 (including Smoke). Many, many litters are under a year.

This was the first time I had ever met or hunted with Larry but I had a great time and a great hunt.

I thought you explained yourself very well Paul, sounds like you had a very good hunt with some very good hounds and great company. Look forward to seeing you at English Days Paul.

I had one off of a GrNite Briar Creek female. Can't say I was very impressed with him. SLOW starting, lazy hunter and didn't have that great of a mouth. I doubt I'd own another.

IT TAKES 2 SETS OF GENETICS TO PRODUCE A PUP, AND ITS A PROVEN FACT THAT 75% COMES FROM THE FEMALE

A STUD DOG IS WAY OVER RATED JMO!!!!!!!!!!

I agree with you David. How is Son doing? I really liked him the 2 nights I hunted with him. There is another Gun pup that I think will be nice. Son and Smoke are the only two I've hunted with but I would be willing to provide either of them with a home!

Yes sir David, I like mine as well she is coming along real nice.

And I agree totally, hard to judge what a dog is reproducing by the results of one puppy.

Top Gun pup

Got a young one here im very impressed with, Had a ruff start before I got him but went rite out with the older dogs the very first nite in the woods.. Not afraid of the dark, made it up and down steep ravines, tracked me back when he got too deep. Very good natured, will eat out of the same food dish with other dogs, shares a coon no aggression. High energy and gets out good in the woods. Bayed his first caged coon, treed like crazy on the hang up.If he is working a track will stay with it and ignore the other dogs or will go with other dogs if he doesnt have anything going. Opened on track second nite out. Been to the woods four times less than 8 mos old just waiting on quiet time to end and anxious to corn hunt him. He wants to please and is a good natured cuss. I like what I see he has the tools. I want a pup that has desire and hunts for me. I sure like the little guy he's a keeper. GUN'S BLUE GOOSE.

TOP GUN

I know I like my pup and I like the other 4 that I have hunted with. But each their own. Thats why we all dont hunt the same breed and we all dont hunt the same Bloodline.

Ears on Gun pups

One thing I really like is the ears on Gun pups. I have two pups out of Gun right now and both have good long houndy ears.

The jury is still out on how they are going to turn out. The male I have is 8 months old while the female is 3 months old. I like the way they act. Very friendly and out going pups. Should have a lot of fun this coming fur season.
