Question

Posted by BrandonZadina on 09-10-2012 02:18 PM:

If the dog got there alive and healthy then you should of paid him full price. He is the one that has to put fuel in his tank and keep his vehicle road worthy. There are a lot of things that can make you late, road construction, flat tires, traffic. I will also throw in one other thing, the dog haulers talk and he will let other haulers know what you have done, good luck getting one to go out of there way to help you if they remember you. I would call the guy up and pay him the full price. because when it comes down to it he is just trying to make a living and pay his bills just like you and I. Just my two cents.

You agreed up front to $300, The job was done. A man of his word would have paid up what was owed. You certainly had every right to let him know you were not satisfied with his service, you have a right not to recommend him to others in the future, you don't have to be happy with the guy. But you agreed on $300, the job was done and you owe him the $300. I think you have an obligation to write that man a check for $30 and get in the mail today.
To answer your question, yes, I think you done wrong.

So, how did this cost you $30? "Convenience" doesn't count.

Would you have paid him $30 more if he had been earlier, or if he gave the dog a bath? I doubt it.

Pay him what you agreed on.

You might need another dog hauled, someday.

Agreed $300. I would have paid him full amount and voiced my feelings on the late arrival, none the less dog made it, in good shape i hope things happen. I have a business and order alot of parts, sometimes they don't get here when should and even get lost in the cracks and have to call and find out where and if they were shipped yet, but when they send me the bill got to be paid regardless I did finally recieve merchandise just maybe not when i should have gotten it. $30.00 is not worth all the problems and thats part of the problem today a mans word was a binding contract of truth, and pride jmo

Buisness owner

I under stand where some of you guys are coming from. I have owned my own business, and as a business owner you also have to under stand that the customers time is worth something also. By not being there when you say you will, can cause a problem for there schedule. Not to mention he showed up at 4 am. In my opinion as a business owner, he did the job, but not in the time he said it would be done. There for he should of offered some sort of discount to make things right in the first place. For a buisness, word of mouth is the best advertising. Things don't always go as planned. Thats just my way of doing buisness.

you owe the man 30 bucks.... in the future if you want a dog to arrive at a certain time.... agree to one price if its there on time and another if its not.... i dont haul dogs but haul lots of frieght that is time sensetive and my contract says be on time.... if im 2 hours late i get paid half and if im 4 hours late i just done it for free.... im sure you could work something out to everyones advantage

Posted by JiM on 09-10-2012 02:55 PM:

You can add more and more but you ask and now you got answers. Again, $300 was the agreed upon price, the job was completed, unless late delivery penalties were discussed upfront, you owe the man the agreed upon price.

The way I look at it there was a breech of contract on both parties. A man tells me something I'm going to hold him to it and that's what I expect. I'll trust anyone once the next time depends on how honest you were the first time. If the man told him saturday night then that's when it should have been delivered ,no excuses. Don't tell somebody what they want to hear to get thier buisness, tell them what your able to do and keep your word.

Maybe that thirty bucks will make him think twice the next time he wants to blow smoke to land a job.

i agree with everybody else you owe the man 30 for his services plan and simple he did his job

The hauler also agreed to deliver within a certain time period, not a day and a half later. Don't agree to something you can't make good on just to land a job.

Posted by Cleo on 09-10-2012 03:31 PM:

Have you ever tried to do what these folks are doing? Trying to pick up and deliver around everyone elses schedule is tough

Some don't want them picked up or delivered past a certain time which makes the haulers spend lost time waiting.

I could go on and on.....

I have one being delivered this morning as a matter of fack. Did I want to get in my truck and drive to Ohio and back (to SC) for what they are charging? Hell no! I couldn't do it! Not with gas prices the way they are. Could you? Now you stiffed him his little bit of fuel money til his next pickup. Shame on you.

A late dog hauler isn't what is wrong with this country.

My point is there are two sides to every story. You don't know what might have caused him to be late.

True if proper notifications are made and the customer is informed of a change in schedule then the contract is effectively modified. Switch it a round if you a a hauler and the customer is a day and a half late to meet for a pickup shouldn't the hauler be paid more for spending more time waiting on the customer? I would like to think so.

So the company made a mistake that costed you time/money since you took off from work. You should be some what compensated. Maybe next time they will do a better job.

And the driver paid the price.

That's what's wrong with our county. The middleman pays the price and the rich keep getting richer.

Glad you got your dog.

Saturday night I would have told the computer jockey/broker/owner if the dog wasn't delivered on time then he needs to discount his delayed service, a few hours is forgivable not 30 hours JMHO

I would have to agree , he was a day late so he lost money both ways , having more fuel expense , plus you short paying him . I really can't understand why him arriving alittle late was a problem , was you plan on hunting the dog as soon as you got it ? Doubt it , this guy could probably of taken you to small claims court if he really wanted to .

Pay for the service and then don't use him in the future if you weren't happy. $30 didn't do much for the missed work you lost and all these opinions you're getting won't change anything either. In the long run with $300 to the hauler & $200 in lost wages for not working Sat. night you'd likely been as well off getting the dog yourself.

No need to go from simple business to politics.

Guess the driver better start making better plans and contact the costumer while in transit and verify arrival times then. Businesses and individuals will never succeed unless they learn from their mistakes.

You started with the politics.

You should tell us who they are so we can all avoid him.

I've never had a pup hauled to me but I have had one or two that were sent with a hauler. I think one if them was later than what they had told the new owner and the other one on time. Best I can remember the one that was late was paid the full price.

Seems to me you asked everyone's opinion and then when they said you messed up you got upset with the answers.

You owe the man $30.00

how many days of lost work would you have used to get it yourself? Plus wear on your vehicle and gas.

when having people haul dogs for you you should expect some delay

Better getting your dog late, than being notified that it was killed or severly injured in an accident because of time restraints for delivery.
