And MAN was I surprised......

When, after renewing my homeowners insurance thru American Family Ins. That the agent called to tell me that they had CANCELLED my policy! Why ?Because I have more than three large dogs (we have 6 adults ,and three pups that are 6 mts or younger) . Not Rotts,or Pitts, or any of the "agressive" dog breeds but coonhounds for the love of pete. And NOTHING in our pens would bite a biscuit (welllll....coon maybe lol) .Their underwriters are seriously cracking down on the amount of lg dogs they will insure. We have been with this company for YEARS! Coonhound folks might want to check into their own policies. Has anyone else had a problem like this??? thanks

They just cut you like that? Man seems that they would have given you a chance to maybe cut down on the number of dogs or else they would drop you. Might be a blessing that you don't have to deal with them anymore.......

No these will companies will drop dog owners at the drop of a feather, you are too much of a liablity.

When answering questions I was instructed to be sure and tell them my dogs were just pets and NOT a kennel /AND DO NOT TELL THEM YOU BREED DOGS< this is considered a businesss and many policies will not cover you if you breed dogs.

What I did when we were being inspected is I took all my dogs off my parents land and put them on my property as I knew they would fail us for sure.
I used to Raise English Bulldogs and they had to come out and inspect us when my dad told them we had Bulldogs as they will not insure you with Pitts, but the English were Ok,
But shop around and you should be able to find something.
There are just too many dog bites and the such that have happened and insurance companies lost too much money, they are in the business to make money not pay it out !!

I have $1'000.000 "UNBRELLA" policy that will cover any non-business liability that I might have. Even covers my liabilities when hunting on someones farm, if a buddy drives my vehicle or whatever as long as I'm legal within the law. Go to your insuror and ask about this type of insurnce. Sounds like they just wanted to get rid of you though.

we have Barton Mutual Group, the only thing they said to us when they came to inspect was to take down the beware of dog signs. they said that it was an admission of mean dogs on the place. they seen all our coondogs and never said a word about how many we were allowed. (ncb wife)

I worry about our vehicle policies as well, as we had to sign a disclaimer saying the vehicles are not used for "business use". There is a big gray area between business and hobby. I do receive money for dogs, but I sure as heck don't PROFIT from them. Call it a hobby or call it a LOSING business LOL.
