needing mentors for coonhuntin!
ok so i use to coonhunt when i was in jr high but then got out of it and was in to girls. well i just got back into coonhunting and i need a mentor someone who is pateitn and understanding of dogs and who honestly can train a coonhound and or coondog from the ground up. i dont know if you have won title or the world hunt i dont care about that stuff. what i do care about if you have 10 dogs in your yard and all 10 hunt thats what matters to me is the percentage of the dogman with his hounds. please PM so we could talk.

I will help if i can
I was out of coon hunting for 20 + years back at it hot and heavy at 62 years young Friend. Just made a nite champion female with a 3rd and two 1st placings this weekend in wind stroms rain and snow LOL, I must be nuts over this hunting.
if you have any questions on anything just post them on this board.you will have all kinds of mentors some giving good advice & some giving bad advice you should be able to tell the difference.if you stick with it long enough you will meet people to help you along.

For some reason the dog box thing does work, I have met quite a few fellow hunters from my dog box. Go to some local clubs and hang out and try to spectate on a few casts. Just know the rules to spectating first. If you don't know ask!! Try to get your hands on a "Walk With Wick" book, it can teach you some of the basics. It's a better read than most of the junk on tv. If you can save enough money to get a young started dog do it, you don't have to spend thousands. I wish someone would have told me when I was starting out how much work and frustration went into pups. Coon huntin is hard work period, but if you love it, it don't seem like it all the time. Just remember all pups don't have what it takes, there will not be a coon in every single tree! Have fun, be safe and good luck.
I understand
I got out for 5 years girls and drinking played a small part the other was my parents got divorced and my landlord wouldn't let me have a hound check around I was lucky and had a couple guys still hunting around me me just be careful who you pick I had some guys that helped but they were in it for the wrong reason basically to try to sell me dogs their are a few that honestly helped me slot and one that helps with anything his name is Lou esteppe he hunted with me my whole life it sure makes you thankful
DOG BOX
OK I DONT HAVE A DOG BOX JUST A KENNEL CRATE I USE BUT IM GOING TO GO BUY ONE THIS WEEK. SEEN ONE FOR COUPLE HUNDRED AT ATWOODS BUT IT LOOKED KINDA LITE IN WEIGHT BUT IT SHOULD WORK JUST FINE.ILL LOOK FOR A COUPLE CLUBS HERE IN OKLAHOMA.
