chargin the dc 30

who else has a problem with first gettin the blue light to come on to get the collar chargin. we had the same problem with the old collar and was mad when they didnt change the new one. i clean it with alcohol and have to fight with it for a few minutes before it gets to chargin. anyone else got any tricks?

Get a knife and scrape around on the little gold looking thing that charges it...On the collar

Most guys around here are useing a bycycle intertube stretched over it while hunting to keep dirt out of it..After hunting simply peel it back and charge.. It works pretty good.

I use the inner tube too. Works good. I noticed on mine this morning I slide the charger on too far.. Pulled it back a little and the light came on.

Posted by houndhunter01 on 06-04-2009 02:02 AM:

yeah looks like i might be tryin one of those a cringe everytime i go to charge it to see how long it will take to get it hooked up

Posted by truebluefordman on 06-04-2009 02:05 AM:

do not use a knife to clean it! it will over time get scrap to far down and not work at all. plug it in when it is still a little wet works good too.. . yes they need to rework that part of it for sure/

run some water over it and plug it in. It will make a connection on it's own pretty quick then.

Use a toothbrush an water it should work pretty easy every time

Posted by POTOMAC on 06-04-2009 03:28 PM:

the problem is not tthe collar but the charger/the pins are backwards /you need to use a die grinder and champfer the back side to a 45 degree angle and this will let the charger go in another 1/16th of an inch to make contact/i have fixed alot and never had one come back or another problem i talked to the engineers at garmin they are supposed to change it if you need m0ore assis. feel free to call 571-233-5819 joe

guys ive been using the garmin for 2 years. i always cleaned my contact with a q-tip before charging the last 2 collaars after 1 nite hunting went to chharge and had to redo the charger as ive stated earlier. talked with bruce conkey he called me cause he was getting alot returned and the whole problem was the charger than garmin called me and told them about the fix and thay said they were going to redesign the charger champfered in the back.alll my collars were fixed this way and im sure alot of bruces were to. if you dont understand feel free to call me and i will try to help you get it resolved 571-233-5819 joe

Posted by John D on 06-05-2009 04:03 PM:

When I come in from hunting, I give the contacts a blast of 110 psi air from an air compressor. They are usually damp and this blast of air gets the crud off the contacts as well as the little grooves the plug slides in.

Sometimes I've had to press on the plug one one way or another or slide it some to get the light to come on.

Its not a good design but coming up with a quick way to charge what may be a dirty, wet collar is not an easy thing to do.

Tritronics collars have the same problem and they've been around for years.
