Got treed last night
Nope, not saying that it is unusual to make a few trees while hunting, but I actually took refuge in a tree myself.
Young dog was runnning something in a cornfield. I thought it was a coon. He kept sounding like he was treed, but not quite either. So I went out to see what was going on. Well, he was near the back of the corn field by a wooded fence row. He was only about 12-15 rows in the cornfield. Thinking it was just another normal coon hunt I got about 3 rows on my way to see what was going on.
My presence must have give the young dog courage because what ever he had he decided to catch it. It was a dang feral hog! World war 3 broke out and it took me only about 5 jumps to be 10 feet high in an old apple tree. There sure was a bunch of movement going on in that corn field! The dog completely shut up. I didn't hear him again for at least the 30 minutes I waited until I climbed down. He actually was still running catching and letting it go over and over until he had enough 2 hours later.
Me, I picked up a big stick and quickly made my way back to the road where I safely listened to the very odd race.

LOL...
...Glad you're OK. Had a few run ins with some feral hogs as a kid...in daytime...especially on horseback. At least the HORSES could outrun them... Or get scared, dump you and leave you to run like a little girl(
I am a TINY woman...) I reached for the trees a couple of times. What is REALLY funny is... looking back on this forum let me know... those pigs were in the woods AT NIGHT... and we coonhunted there. I am SUCH a city kid...LOL... I guess I thought they went into a barn at night. I didn't realize they had gone wild.... I'm SO glad I never heard a snort out there... or that PAWING they do... Akkkk!
Real glad it had a decent ending! They make a GOOD meal!
Happy Hunting! Heather

if your gonna be afraid of somthin pick a snake not a hog
i walk the swamps with em all the time down here in mississippi, aint much to be afraid of i think you'll be alright, had one charge me one time at night all i did was step to the side and he went on into the wood s and disapeared. most the time theyll run strait away from you. we catch em and hog tie the big ones(250lbs and up) round here when the dogs get em. not as bad as you migh hear folks say they are just look out for the cutters and youll be fine.

If SNAKES and HOGS were half as bad as people thought there would be dead folks all over the south.
Get ready if you have 1 hog now that means 1,000 tomorrow!!

Just all 'round , meat gettin' hounds.
Be careful Larry. I've seen some nice dogs cut up pretty bad by pigs. The mother of the female I have now was killed by a big ole boar.
