-- well today.... (http://forums.ukcdogs.com/showthread.php?threadid=195842)
we lost one today....
well today i went to cabelas and while i was there my mom called me and asked me what was wrong with danny (our chihauha/jackrussel) i said he was fine and that he was in his cage she said no he cant move his back legs at all hes dragging himself around the house...it got me pretty scared well we were just leaving cabelas so we went home fast and mom finally got ahold of the vets because they were closed so she was headed there...on our way home about 10 miles away she called and said he had slipped a disk in his spine...i had no idea what that meant but she said that we had to put him down...well we finally got there and i got to hold him and tell him goodbye and the vet put him to sleep...if u were there u could tell that that dog meant a gajillion tons to my family... we kept his collar and we are going to get him cremated and keep his ashes like u do to a person..but its already weird him not being here cause i know ill never have to go around the house looking for him in the morning so i can put him in his cage before we go to school..i will never chase him around the house again ... ill never lift the cover to let him under to sleep with me.. i wont get to see him make his blankets cumfy.. or see him carry away the fork when we set our plates on the floor to lick him..ill never see his poop or pee on my bedroom floor..or find things he chewed up..ill never hear his noisy crunch as he eats his dog food..ill never see him play with pj again or see izzi chase him throuh the yard like hes a rabbit...he'll never get in on any of our cat chases out in the barn ... and finally he'll never lick my face again
Joey + redticks
I'm real sorry for your loss. We just had to put our Greyhound to sleep in January and you are right you WILL miss ALL those things, good and bad.
Our old guy was a Total Pain in the neck..and we loved him every moment anyway. Bob misses having to carry him up to bed at night (almost 90 lbs!), having to spend Forever to get him to eat his prescription food, help him on the ice....
BUT... you know what? They are still in our hearts. We have him and 2 of our coonhounds cremated and their collars hang on the "urns" which are wood. All three are up on the mantel piece right near me as I type. We may bury them some day and may not? Time will tell..... When I go up to bed tonight and just 2 coonhounds follow me up I'll still feel that the greyhound is near me.
Danny is painfree and young and tough as a BIG dog now. He is in your heart and he took a part of you with him as well. He'll never be lonely. You loved him a ton, I can tell and he knew that...They always do.
I'm sending thoughts and prayers for you and your family for your loss, Sincerely, Heather (and Bob and family too)

it is weird though he was just 2 and who would have thought it would have happend...and i know he knew i loved him that dog WAS human i swear
I'm so sorry for your loss. Reading your words brought tears to my eyes and a pain in my heart. Your dog will always be with you and you'll cherish every memory, good or bad. I dont think we as dog owners ever expect to loose a cherished family member, but unfortunatly it happens and we are NEVER prepared for it. Even if they are geriatric and have problems. We keep them comfortable and safe and then unfortunatly its time for them to go all to soon. Again I am sooo sorry for your loss! My thoughts are with you.
