Pup question
I have a pup that just turned a year old. Goes huntin good. He can and has treed alone a few times. Will tree and stay when he is sure but moves on when unsure. My problem is he isnt sure on some trees that have coons in em. He moves on and trails the track backwards until its so cold he cant. Is his nose better than what he can stand for his age or does he need to learn to tree more or what? I dont want him too tree happy but Not sure what to do about this. Any help with this is appreciated
Try to get to him as fast as you can when you think he is about to tree or whenhe trees and knock these coons out to him they are the ones he needs..you have the chance to have a nice accurate hound you just have to help him...he is not tree happy dogs those type of dogs you can't pry away with a crowbar even when its slick...I wouldn't even take one if it was gave to me yet a lot are being bred because tree power is in and track is out..

Re: Pup question
quote:i'd much rather see a young dog leave a tree and go run a different coon then go backwards on the track. thats usually a sign the dog was started too young or the lack of brains bred into it. but at a yr old it aint gonna have the brains, nose or experiance to have learned any real track sense.
