Rules - NH Strike Position Question
This was a situation I was involved in several years ago at the Canadian Autumn Open.
Pouring down rain - bad night weather-wise.
First dump
A struck in front of us. B and C struck deep and got out of hearing fairly quickly mostly due to the conditions. The only dog we could hear was A which was closest to us working a washed up track.
Over an hour of hunt time had elapsed when A treed. She had a coon. We then proceeded in the direction we last heard B and C before starting the 8.
C was declared treed while A was still on leash. Go to C's tree. Circle tree. C withdrawn. B can now also be heard (not declared treed) in different direction. A is recast. A strikes.
Question comes up - 100 or 25 strike points for dog A?
Well the non-working dog rule says if an hour elapses, first strike is reopened so I'd say A strikes in for 100.
I'll have my answer when I get there five days should be plenty since I got the last one wrong(still think elvis better double check my paper)LOL CYA at Portland

A, B and C were all struck in in that order Jake.
If the cast agrees or judge determines that B is not working as part of cast (7) Non-Working Dog rule. A goes in for 100,( one hour has elapsed.)The coon scored is irrevelant since it was just 1 coon. If the cast does not agree or judge does not determine that B is not under the(7) Non-Working Dog rule, 25.
First determine if rule (7) applies.
In my cast : A goes in for 100.
This whole cast trailed for over an hour, when do you draw the line.In my cast, I'll draw the line , A goes in for 100.
Answer-
I agree with Jim- Dog not working with cast- Strike for 100
Rule does not say anything else can be done.

MY ANSWER IS 25 SINCE DOG C OCCUPIED 3RD STRIKE AND ALLEN DID NOT SAY THAT AN HOUR HAD ELAPSED AFTER DOG A'S TREE WAS SCORED-- AND NOT ENOUGH COON WERE SCORED TO OPEN A NEW SET OF STRIKE POINTS.

Dog a should strike in for 100 points. There has been 1 hour elapsed.

Non working dog rule should not be applied. Because 1.) one coon scored 2.) By the time the dog C's tree was scored there was less than an hour left.
100.
"7. NON-WORKING DOG:
If dog is not working as part of cast and is holding first strike or second strike, etc., all strike points will be open to other dogs after coons have been treed and seen in two separate trees, or one hour of hunting time has elapsed."
The non working dog rule would come into play here because the rule only states that ONE HOUR OF HUNT TIME elapse OR 2 coon treed in seprate trees.
This fits all the provisions of the rule. There is no requirement for how long dog A trailed etc. Only what the dog that was holding the strike ahead of her was doing and that was holding strike for over an hour while not being part of the cast (remember he was NOT with dog C who also got treed and the time that dog C was scored is not relevant, only the time dog B was holding strike while not being with the cast).
SO if you went literally with the rule you must open the new set of strike points as all the provisions to use this rule are present.
The only arguement you could make against it was if for some reason you thought B and C were actually working together and only split up at the end so that less than one hour had elapsed. But the way the question reads, they were all split up, none of them working together, and over an hour had elapsed from the time the dog was working alone and when dog A was restruck.

I think they made a mistake to begin with by not attempting to stay within hearing of all dogs. If unable to do so, call time and get cast back together and turn loose again

don't you have to tree [2] coon--SEEN---before --you can get the dog for none working --DOG A BACK IN FOR 25 IF ONLY ONE COON WAS TREED--because it hasn't been one hour since dog A was pulled off the tree or the dog C's tree was scored---IF dog A make another tree with coon -because there isn't an hour left in the hunt so the hour wouldn't come into play -than I would would say on dog A's next recast he would get 100 for strick If B is still running

dog A's points were plused and C's were circled, C with drew from cast so now its a two dog cast. B is now holding first strike as he is moved to next available position, therefore when he opened and dog A was cut loose and opened she was struck in for 75.

50...... It seems to me the rain was the factor in not hearing the hounds. So,the hour rule cant be applied..They dont know if b was just out lolly gagging around or running a coon all that time..
i dont see how 25 is even an option.
next available position is now 50.
Allen,
I dont think it makes any difference that the dogs trailed for an hour, only that an hour of hunting time has elapsed.
The rule is pretty plain. The dogs werent working togather and one of the 2 requirements to open a new set of strike points had been met.
I will agree that when it got to the point you couldnt hear all the dogs time out should have been called. Who knows if that would have been an option with the weather like you described.

ELVIS --all [3] dogs were struck in at 100-75-50-- together and dog B was still running and holding 50 strike after they took A & C off their trees

I say that Dog A gets 25 strike, because he/she was the dog that was holding the first strike (100).
