What do you think of when you here the phrase Dog Trader
How many people on all the forums would you consider to be dog Traders?
Do you consider the word dog Trader a dirty word?
My dad was a dog Trader and looked forward to every stock sale day when he would bring home a new world champion acording to what they say.lol.
Don't think no one will ever take the place of Cass Walker though but we have some on the Walker forum sure gets their hands on a lot of high priced dogs but just need a little more wood time to become the next world champion.LMAO.

My first bluetick was a female from cass walker. I was 16 and called ol cass. He said he had just the dog for me LOL My moms friend and her were going down to knoxville to visit family. So I talked those 2 old ladies into bringing the dog back up to michigan. She rode in the back seat of my dads 64 chevy impala. For 300 that dog sure could run a track but the treeing wasn't so good. LOL Yea old cass was a dog dealer. Also old jim gatton of cleveland, tenn

There never was and there never will be a dog trader that could compare to old Cass Walker. Looked forward to readin about his dogs for sale every month in the Full Cry, finally made the trip with my huntin buddy about 72 or 3 and man you never saw as many dogs in one place, had to be a couple hundred and every one a bonified coon treer. My pick was a little one eyed red dog priced to sell at 250 that Cass assured me was a full blooded redbone, but lookin back i figure she was atleast half beagle. She wasnt any count as a tree dog but she would get ya close which was good enough to a couple kids back when hides were high. Those really were the good ol days.

I will disagree on who was the best dog trader, O.L. Beckham from Missouri was the best known dog dog trader back in the day. He wrote stories for Full Cry that was featured in the magazines for years and years.
My grandfather loved to trade dogs. I was raised up riding in the back of his 53 Chevy going to a place called "Briscos" to trade dogs. Even if grandpa traded for a good dog, it was up for trade the next month. When I got old enough, grandpa got hold of a retired field trial mix breed named Nig that treed coon and squirrel. I bought Nig from grandpa and then, we had a dog that would tree game for us.
There are not too many dog traders these days. I personally consider myself a dog breeder and I have had some success in that role. There is one guy that calls me "dog trader" to get under my skin but it doesn't work. I either buy or sell dogs occasionally but most of my dogs come from dogs I have bred over the years. I will say I have a couple of "old time" buddies that I swap dogs with just for old times sake. They are in their 70s, they won't be swapping much longer, but it reminds me of the days of my youth. I don't expect much in a dog swap and I ain't trading much. The fact is that me and one of them are going to swap dogs tomorrow. I figure I might get something young that just needs a chance. We are swapping short eared, bob tailed dogs LOL

I like a good trade ever now and then. Guns is where its at nowdays. Ain't enough hunters around these parts to trade on cheap dogs no more. We had a few around when I was growing up though. One always had 30 or 40 hounds. Every one of them blow through yonder and tree Coon dogs. Atleast that's what the old owner told him lol.

Knew Mr. Beckham well, bought quite a few dogs from him to resell many years ago, Heriick, Il., Dewey Sarver sold and shipped thousands of dogs yrs. back, times have changed for sure, fond memories of those long gone times, but would not want to go back to most of those dogs...
