Squirrels in the snow
What kind of hunts do y'all usually have in the snow as far as squirrels being out and about. I have t hunted them to much in the snow but today I tried it and just seemed like they weren't out even went where there was less snow and nothing . The trees were covered pretty good but one spot wasn't .

ive done good ive done bad just depends on what kind of country you are in
That's my favorite time, it's hard for me to see them but when there's snow on the trees, it will fall when the sq is starting to timber or running you know.

Depends how deep the snow is, how windy it is, and somedays on a good day they just aren't out. I have had some great days in a light snow. Deep snow makes it bad unless they can walk on top of it but they still like to stay near a den a lot of times. First decent snow I think they tend to stay in just because they aren't used to it and aren't hungry enough yet. Best day I ever had there was probably about three inches of snow and the temperature was in the teens. It was even a little windy but not gusting. Never can tell about them.

i hunted yesterday for 3 hrs in 5 inches of fresh snow.a few were down late afternoon but most weren't 20 ft from there dens.i always found if the snow is laying on the branches they don't come down till the wind blows it off.over all I have had some great hunts in snow. and windy days as bob stated. once in the bush usually not much wind. do I like snow. hmm its pretty to look at other than that heck no.
I love squirrel hunting on the.snow

You guys really have the squirrels up there in Michagan from the videos I have seen. I am thinking a lot of it also depends on the area. Like it proabably affects them different where they don't get much snow than it does in places where snow is common. I would love to just once get to hunt in a place that was loaded with squirrels.

Hunting in the snow is one of my favorite times to hunt. Especially if its only 1-3" and a light snow that blows around good. The branches stay clean and the squirrel still move on the ground.
If its a deep hard snow, I usually wait a few days. Squirrels will den up for 2-3 days, but after the storm has passed, they usually get out and about. The problem with deep snow is they stay close to the den trees.
My dang house dog has soft feet, so after a long day or so of hunting in the ice and snow, she usually gets busted up feet. The dog does not mind it, but Momma usually puts a stop to hunting after the dog comes back all busted up.
The squirrels will hang out near the den trees and another good place to find them is in the pines. They often move in and eat pine cones.
sunny snow days
The squirrels really get active on a sunny winter day. I think on cold days (10+ degrees) they come out mid morning and then stay in the den. One hunt last season i had to hike 10 miles to get five fox squirrels. It was the last of the season so i was determined.
