I don’t agree that you can use the Garmin to walk your 8 either. That is a twist of the rules in my opinion. You are using the Garmin to aid in the scoring .

I believe it’s rule #3 on the list in hunt package ....

Whether you agree or not, you can do it according to Mr UKC.

Correct The rule pre-dates Garmin it is your 8 and you can use it to walk wherever you choose or spin around in circles if you wish, place back and forth, go on a wild goose chase or wherever the handler thinks he/she may need to go to hear their dog, no different than before the Garmin.

All we want is for them to strike a coon drive it down there like a whitetail and tree it. If something backs fine if not fine. When we pull off of that tree don’t acknowledge dogs that are treed or trailing leave like a rocket and go tree another one by yourself. It doesn’t have anything to do with being DEEP everytime it has to do with being deaf to what’s is going on around them and not wollering around on the ground. It shouldn’t matter what kind of track it is it should be ran like a deer not trailed with your nose on the ground. Find one like this and you will get your picture taken.

Wasnt no deep and alone tonight. He was alone cause I hunted him alone. Struck at maybe 200. Trailed about 300 yards and treed a den. Second drop he struck at maybe 150 yards. Trailed out to about 500 yards and another den. Coon on outside. Beautiful night. No bugs. 55 degrees. Perfect

So we don’t go back to where the dog was last heard to apply the 8?

Like pre Garmin days

Go back, apply the 8 and if the handler wants to walk, you walk. Only difference now is he knows which direction to walk in.
Don't make it more difficult just because you don't like Garmins and don't think they should be used.

I like Garmin. I just trying to be sure I understand the usage correctly. The scenario I pictured was we score your tree and pull off that tree, we have two other dogs struck of a 3 dog cast. My Garmin says mine is .7 south and the other person shows .7 north and neither can be heard, which way do we walk? I say we go to last spot we heard them apply the 8 if not heard we minus them and cut your dog again. No walking to a dog that can’t be heard. You’ve never saw me post negitive about being able to use Garmin in a hunt. I just had a different thought of how it is to be used.

Sonny you're getting into the unspoken advantage of being the judge. The Judge and cast especially if they are his buddies. Can steer the cast away from hearing a dog that may be parked with a coon that would beat them. Trust me it happens.

Understood, I’ve seen it often. But it needs to be majority of cast to choose the direction , correct? I really thought it was stated that we absolutely don’t walk to a dog that can’t be heard.

Yes but some guys at the end of the cast will try and pitch a dog treed deep if they are behind. He better ask me judge you hear my dog treed in there before he trees him not after.

sonny You can still go back to last place dogs were heard before starting the time. None of that has changed because of the garmin usage.

We cut 3 dogs last night, in 5 mins and 48 seconds x was struck and treed at .59 when we got to him he had a coon and when I recut him another one come treed, 400 yrds deeper, before we got to him x was treed again 600 past him with #2 if your gonna race you better build a RACECAR.
The older I get the less I enjoy the deep and alone through the week, but come RACE DAY i enjoy my race car.

nope you won't, I bet if Jason my partner and 1 were on a cast together there'd be a load of fun had. And if you're at the truck you can't hear everything being said.

I blamed this on the tree count down in another thread but the more I've thought about it, the tracking system being used during hunt time is the real culprit.

Kenny your thinking, One thing Garmin didn't make this happen in the hunts, It is a training tool before the hunts. The beep beep showed you what direction your dog was but it didn't tell you where it was. With the garmin you can now set at the truck and watch the map and see exactly where your dog is. These dogs can now be trained to go deep and lonely long before they come to the hunt. They are trained to strike when cut and go deep an lonely. These are winners in 1 hour hunts. I will post later in a new post 3 rules we need so the 1 hour hunts in UKC don't get as bad as another kennel club. Automatic strike dog deep and lonely isn't near as deadly in a 2hr hunt as what it is in a 1hr hunt.

Mine is split half the time due to getting out of there . He doesn't babble some I'm a 50 strike usually . What I see going on is hunters are beating shocking setting up dogs to make them loners not that it's a natural trait in the dog . Those dogs get very pinchy when something does strike and tree with them . Or they leave if covered . I also see the dog that is trained this way get off solo struggling to get something happening while the others get in the coins . I wonder if this is false advertising when you get a pup off the man made dogs and it's a pack dog . I don't make many hunts anymore but notice there are a lot of guys working hard to man make them . I just don't want mine to be recut and cover closed trees

Dogs that will get in there deep and tree a coon are easy to find. Dogs that will put up 1000+ are easy to find. Give me one that can do both. Now they are rare!

You forgot bench show worthy too. 😎
