I THINK THIS IS THE WORST RULE EVER. HAVE U EVER HERD SUM ONE SAY I THINK THATS MY DOG IN THERE WELL THEY CAN JUST LOOK AT THERE GARMIN AN SAY YEP THATS SPOT TREE O SPOT
Rule
I'm entering my two cents in . First I feel this Is a terrible ideal. Tell you how the majority of my Ukc hunts go being in one this year but regardless how they generally go and I'm not starting a Ukc dog vs Pkc dog battle either. Turn lose In a big holler three dogs go straight up the side on straight up it racing. The 4 th dog goes a different way. All 4 dogs are out of hearing. Well which way is the cast going to start listening. Ding ding ding towards the three cause majority rules meanwhile never hearing the fourth dog cause you had to walk away from it. Again no battles between kennel clubs but I have rarely drew a cast that cuts off the white line in Pkc . Ukc other hand I withdrew for safety of my dogs. Hunted three cast in Pkc world hunt this year. 2 hours same woods back and forth neve once worried about a road. One of the last worldukc world hunts I went to year before mr clean won it I drew him Friday night both of our dogs crossed road after road all night. I heard the phone call between mr Dunlap and the owner. He wanted to withdraw him and not hunt him Saturday night. It will make it harder for judges cause of the added bs. No reason it couldn't be turned off for two hours. If that worried about roads shouldn't have a cast there anyways.
I love the rule. Like most Will. Our hunting has shrunk to small places. I don't care about the looking but just glad to be able to leave on incase I need it. I see no way to cheat if you have a judge that knows anything about judging.

I'll tell you what. If everyone would read the rules and know them going in, there WON'T be any cheating in their cast's. I have no problem having a Garmin on during a hunt, for dog safety! If I'm judging and don't hear a dog, don't expect me to score points on the card!

The example above is the same. No one is going to be strikeing or treeing dogs based on their garmin, if the judge doesnt hear the dog he doesnt accept the call, simple as that.
I have always heard the squeaky wheel gets the grease but (com-on man) give this thing a rest. I applaud UKC for stepping outside the box. Every body that has ever used a garmin 0n a regular basis fully understands that the human ear is much more reliable when calling a dog than looking at your Garmin. This Garmin is a WONDERFUL tool that certainly enhances the safety of your hounds, and especially so when we are free casting in unfamiliar territory such as you may find yourself in when participating in a UKC Nite hunt.
Thank You UKC, this is a wonderful decision.
To those thinking they will never attend another night hunt because we are allowed to use technology capable of keeping track of our dog while free casting, I ask you this. Have you ever been in a cast where you were required to withdraw and you had to go gather up your dog without the assistance from your guide. Isn't this a great tool for situations like that. It is my hope that you have not already been looking for a reason to NOT attend UKC hunts, and this is the leverage you choose to utilize to justify your decision.
Good Hunting to all, especially in the coming year of competition!!!

I hope that everyone I draw has 3 handlers who use their garmin to strike and tree their dog. It will be a one dog cast in under an hour. Anyone who has used a garmin much at all realizes that.

GARMIN
Some of you missed my point. Maybe I did not make it clear enough? Nothing can be considered cheating unless it is against the rules.
Cheat definition;
intransitive verb
1a : to practice fraud or trickery b : to violate rules dishonestly
Beacause you can tell if your dog is getting ready to strike or tree by looking at the Garmin doesn't mean a whole lot to me if I am hunting against you in a cast. You knowing that surely did not help your dog find the track. You knowing that surely did not make him bark when he smelled where the coon had walked or climbed.
Also I personally think it should be a requirement that every dog in the cast should be wearing a collar with a light and all have a different color to help see what each dog is doing in the dark.
I think more use with the Garmins and collars with lights would keep more handlers and their hounds in check and held accountable. Really matters not what you know or don't know your dog is getting ready to do. Just my opinion.....

Last post for me on the subject....#1 my point was you should be able to use the Alpha, #2 it'll just cause more crap...not saying I or any other judge can't control it just a side note/ point I was making in reference to being able to use a GPS peroid! DONE!!!

Alpha
To get back to the original questions Travis ask;
I agree the Alpha should be allowed to the woods. No brainer IMO.... I find it hard to grasp it is not allowed due to the training options it has

for all those that are for the Alpha
Do you think the Alpha CAN be used to affect other dogs in the cast?(use of the tone feature)
Now...... Can the astro?
I think that's the whole point

Times they are a changing.
it don't seem very long ago that they tried to bar Bellar for having a beep-beep collar on his dog cause nobody else had one. rofl
elvis, if i'm not mistaken didn't Bellar insist on using it before the cast was finished? during a timeout which was not permissible back in the day! you were able to have a tracking collar on but could not use it at any time before completing 2 hrs. of hunting time! after he threatened the kennel club with a lawsuit the rule was then changed I believe.

Starting a list
on all the things that UKC was going to regret:
1-Autumn Oaks was going down the tube because of the NO SMOKING. Still going
2-Moving Winter Classic to Mississippi. Largest ever.
3-Allowing the use of tracking device during hunt. We'll see.
4-Not allowing the use of Alphas during the hunt. We' see.
Feel free to add to the list.
