Heads are rolling! Mine's been spinning for a week since the conversation I had with a young local. His pitch made a whole lot of good sense. A slight spin off that idea might be just the ticket to bring grands back to the local club. Can't spill the beans on day one. Sorry. lol.

You're traditional hunts will always be there. Plus you're getting more options and opportunities. That's a good thing, right? Some people like corn flakes. Others like cottage cheese. I like ice-cream and pork chops.

Whatever you have to do to get people coming back to the local hunts. The slams are great but we need people coming back the the local clubs. There are enough people that have lost interest and no longer coming. Add the people that finish their dog and its getting bad. I know the traditional thinking is you finish one and start another, but for people that are not going to just bring anything to a hunt its sometimes years until that next one.

I don't think anything will bring back the Grands. They wouldn't even hunt PKC if it weren't for the money to be won. All we heard was give us money and the Grands will come back. So they allowed added purses, jackpots, calcuttas, but nobody jumped into that. Then it was give us Pro Hunts so they came up with the Slams, most don't fill. You think those Grand owners are gonna pass up money and then come running back for Super Grand or Grand X2? By the time an owner/handler has hustled a dog from nothing to Grand, they have a feeling of "been there, done that". At that point, one of two things happens. They start over with a new one or they quit going.
Hunting Grands is not gonna be the savior of UKC. Not at the local club level.

Maybe we have different opinions of what number of grands it would take to be impactful. I believe giving GRNITEs another title to hunt for would probably cause an average of 3-4 grands to show up at regular UKC hunts in my area. This past year I saw numbers of entries anywhere from 12 - 20 dogs at most hunts. 3-4 grands hunting against the NITECHs is one more cast of NITECHs. When you only have 2-3 NITECH casts at most of your hunts one more cast is fairly impactful in my mind.

I don't think you'd get 3-4 Grands. I think you'd get that 1 who shows up to hunt alone seeking to add that next level for his stud dog ad in Bloodlines.

I kind of understand what Jim is talking about. At our club we don't usually get a big turn out. Around the 4-8 dogs. Maybe just maybe a full nitch cast. Mostly just 2 dogs.

Agree and most of the time will be lucky to get that many in NITECH.

They will not show up if they are not guaranteed competition. They will not show up for a jack pot or Calcutta and have to hunt by themselves. They will have to be given a goal and hunted with the nch. I dont think UKC started the slams to bring back the grands cause a large entry is certainly not the way to do it. Remember Jim your part of the country is a different world from mine. Every part of the country is different and will have different results from the same program. I can only tell them what will work were I live.

There wouldn't be any hunting alone about it. If they want the next title they would have to continue hunting against NITECHs.
