Timber Valley Big Bad John

Timber Valley Big Bad John will be handled in the hunts this year by Boone Valley English Kennels. He will be handled by myself and my son Raymond.
Big John is a get in the dark and get treed type of hound. He has a huge mouth that carries well and is extremely accurate. He handles well and should help the English Breed when he is ready for the stud pen.
Big Bad John is owned by Jeff Kathman and John Ferrari. He was raised in Michigan at Larry Wilcox' kennel and hunted a lot by David Lloyd. He is not at stud at this time, I am just wanting to show everyone his pedigree and describe him a little. Thanks for reading and good luck at the hunts. Go TEAM ENGLISH!

We are all looking forward to this summer. It is always good to hit the shows and hunts on weekends to see friends and make new ones.

We are really proud of BJ and also the show dog that Penny Jessup has sent us to show. We will show Ruby until English Days then we will send her back with Penny and bring home a different hound until Autumn Oaks.

Mr. Jim Ridge has also blessed us with a Nt. Ch female out of Triple X. We will get her home around English Days if not before.

After 30 years it is very humbling to have these kind of friends. I am hunting a hound that was raised in The Larry Wilcox kennel and now lives in the TImber Valley Kennel of John Ferrari, showing a hound from the Jody & Penny Jessup Kennel, and MR. Jim Ridge and the Briar Creek hounds have given us a NT. Ch female. Top that all of with the fact that Raymond, Trish and I have bought a puppy from Del Hudson.

Good Luck this year Dave and let me know if you need anything from our kennel. We would be honored to help out anyway we can.

Update on progress so far

Kentucky Mountain Ugly Stepsister~AKA "RUBY" has now made champion and will work towards grand show this month. Penny Jessup and Sue Ragsdale own her and it has been our pleasure to show her and qualify her for the 2015 UKC World Show.

Big John has came up short in the night hunts. We lost our cast on a tie breaker, 425 plus-no minus. Came down to most circle points and that cost us his first place win.

Next Cast three split trees and we had two coon and a den and the cast winner had three coon. No minus again.

Lost our cast at the RQE to a nice female that looked good. I made one bad handler error and took our first minus of the year. Lesson learned and we will move on.

Headed to the hunts again this weekend and we have been hunting Dot now that her pups are weaned. She needs to dry up some more before I take her to unknown territory, but she has been looking pretty good for being laid up with pups.

And Lastly, Some of Durango's semen has been moved to Dean Bitzel in Wabash, Indiana. We are ready to breed Kate when she comes into season. Greg Shores and I are looking forward to June.

It won't be long

The wait is about over. Kate started bleeding yesterday and will head up to be bred soon.

Finally, after a long wait, the old JUNIOR blood will hopefully make it back into the gene pool.

We have one female bred who was bred about 5 weeks ago and now this female. Both are proven hounds as well as proven reproducers.

We are excited to get these pups in the hands of reputable and awesome ambassadors for the English Breed.

Go Team English... I hope to See many of you at English Days!

Congrats to John Ferrari and Timber Valley English

Big Bad John finished into NT. Ch in style. 825 plus, 375 legitimate circle, and NO MINUS. He also won the bench show with competition. He is well onto his way to Dual Champion this summer. Hoping to Grand him out by Autumn Oaks.

Have a safe trip to Greencastle.... Hope to see a lot of old friends.... and hopefully meet some new ones...!

I hate to report that GrNtCh Hickory Holler Crazy Kate did Not conceive pups after be bred to the Durango semen. Hopefully Chip will get a successful breeding with his last straw.

Thanks Greg..... I guess everything happens for a reason.... We don't always understand why, but that is the way it goes.

Jim Ridge Called me Saturday and told me that his Gr. Nt. Female out of Chrome has come into heat. I am going out to meet him and bring her to Iowa. She will be bred to John. So.... we are onto the next one!

John has one win towards Grand Night. We continue to condition him and hope to finish him when it cools down.

Dot has went to southern Iowa to be used as a pup trainer until October or so. She continues to please us. She was a nice addition to our kennel.

Tony Williams has the NT. Ch female out of Triple X and is hunting her some and waiting for her to come into heat.

John Ferrari just bought a NT. Ch (4 wins) female from Mike Jameson. Dee's All Grand Raggedy Ann will get that last win and will be used up here to raise puppies.

Ten is down in Missouri getting started by Danny Hayes. She is growing up and will hopefully be ready to hunt alone at Hide Season time.

PR. Friday Night Hiesman (won best of show male at English Days on Friday) continues to get ready for Autumn Oaks.

For years we tried to stud out good hounds in Central Iowa.

I hope everyone will at least take the time to see what John has to offer the breed. I would hate for him to be overlooked because we are in Iowa, we don't advertise as much as some breeders, or whatever.

He is not at public stud at this time, but it won't be long.

63 day countdown

This cross was made last night. Thanks for all the pm's .

I will make a list and post it soon. If you are interested in a pup out of Big Bad John and Sue don't hesitate to contact me. If we have enough interest in this litter they will be performance paid, if not, this will be his only litter this year so we will wait to performance him next year.

My wife and I cannot express enough kind words to the English Houndsmen/ Houndswomen that have helped put us back in the greatest sport alive. We are very honored to be associated with such a fine group of people.

Mr. Jim Ridge and Chris Gerth~ Words cannot do justice to tell these two how I feel about owning Sue. She has been a breathe of fresh air for me. She will never leave my kennel and you will be hearing a lot about her in the years to come.

Mr. Freddy Wells~ Thank you for giving us the opportunity to have "Mary". It was a long shot that we would get a pup so my wife named her Hail Mary.... Freddy, You will not be disappointed that you have chosen us to get a female.

Mr. Mike Jameson~ Thank you for helping me find a nice blue male pup for my brother in law and also for allowing Annie to come to Iowa. I will help John get her granded out and she will rest under that special tree in Boone County like I promised.

Mrs. Penny Jessup~ Wow! What can I say.... I put the word out there that I was looking for a way to get my family involved and Penny and I worked together to make it happen. We now have two of the nicest hounds to enjoy. Heisman is the half brother to Autumn Beland's National Grand Show Champion Blueberry Jam. He has a special bond with both my children. They absolutely LOVE this hound to death. "CRY" is the daughter of World Show Champion Cinderella and the 2011 Purina Nt Ch. (Cinderella is the daughter of Boughton's Red Ruby which I once owned. Ruby was raised and trained by Jason Boughton of Rice, Mn. Ruby is the full sister to Hall of Fame Timber Valley Ten and her sister Timber Valley Queen, which makes Cinderella a granddaughter to my old Durango hound.)

Mr.Joe Tracy, Mark Elliot, Walter Grey~ These houndsmen all had a part with Nt. Ch Ch. Tracy's Moonlight Dottie. I was given the opportunity to buy her and with a little research and hunting with her in Michigan it was easy to decide she needed to be in my kennel. She will be handled by my 11 year old son, Hunter, in all the youth shows and hunts around. She is such a pleasure to have. She is a proven reproducer and will flat out get in the dark and get hooked up.

Mr. John Ferrari~ It is no secret that I took a few years off. I became frustrated with coonhunting and decided to coach high school football ( hence the Friday Night Kennel name). It was a nice journey, but John stopped by my house and asked me to join him on a pleasure hunt with Timber Valley Big Bad John. That's all it took. I was hooked again. I LOVE THESE ENGLISH HOUNDS. Always have and always will. I do not know if I would have ever hunted again if it wasn't for him stopping by. I will be forever grateful to him for this.

Good Luck to all English Houndsmen/ Houndswomen at the upcoming Zone and World Championships...... Lets Keep working together to Keep the English Coonhound Superior!

Great news people working together. I remember over 15 years paying storage on Bingo Semen and never getting a pup. I spent hundreds of dollars on storage..........I glad Freddy it work for you. Thanks everyone.

I'm back online!!!!

I have not been on the message boards for sometime. It seems like family, work, and hounds have kept me away. But, with the competition season winding down and winter quickly approaching I will be getting my "HOUND" fix by talking to all of you.

It has been a very successful year for us. We are very proud of Sue, Heisman, and Cry. We have a few new projects and look forward to hide season which begins in another week.

If anyone is looking for a place to hunt in central Iowa give us a shout. We have plenty of coon and lots of different terrain to fit your needs.

We would welcome anyone wanting to turn an English dog loose.

Upcoming litter from Boone Valley English.

We are very excited to announce that Sue has started to bleed and will be making the trip to Oklahoma to be bred to Gr. Ch. Gr. Nt. Ch Spring River Rilo.

He is a solid coonhound that has advanced to the UKC World the past two years. He is as nice as they come and he has young pups that started early and are coondogs.

I have booked a limited number of pups so none will be for sale.

These pups will be super stakes and performance pups. If she has a nice sized litter I will book the extra pups, but as of now we have 7 spoken for.
