Well if your not going to show me the coon than I would rather you didn't shine at all. I can generally find my own coon and have found several for other people but never with 10,000 on the line. I don't get mad if people don't help me shine but I get a little angry when they go blind.

Right there is an honest answer. $10,000.00 is a lot of money most of us never have and never will have that kind of money riding on a hunt. Can't really say what I'd do. I'd like to think I'd shine and show if I saw it but like I said 10 G's is a lot of money.

If you need help finding your coon chances are your lacking the dog power to hunt for 10 000 anyways....

Honestly Id be standing there holding his / her hand and helping her make the right call . Ive only been at one Youth event where that was prohibited . I probably have enough dog power to give you a pretty good spanking with any of the four in my kennel with the exception of the pups but if it didnt turn out that way Id be at the club house telling that I got out dog powered . Maybe You would do the same . I dont think I have the dog power right now to justify or risk a $1000 entry fee but my hats off to the circuit hunters that do as Im sure they have more dog power than I possess . I have a son that pitches and is finishing his senior year at LSUA and graduating in just his 4th year ( proud father ) . Instead of pushing my hounds I spent the last 10 years getting him to the Junior Olympics , travel ball , watching him compete in college and summer collegiate league activities . Now I have the time and have some pretty good stuff and hopefully youll get a chance to see what kind of dog power I have soon . . I read one of your post about one of your children in youth hunts and Im sure as a parent they will get invoved in outside activities and your dog will sit a bit while you do what parents do . Support your child . Maybe next year Ill draw you in one of these events and you can see first hand what I got and what kind of man I am . Im looking forward to it !

totally agree itd be different if its just a 25$ hunt but 10grand is alot

what is actually being said or implied by some is.... im as honest as can be until you add the money then your on your own.... hope and pray when or if the time ever comes im a better man than that.... not a 10,000 dollar hunt but i did knock myself out of the ukc world finals by seeing a mans coon for him after the hunt was over that beat me and i havent ever regretted what i did not one minute and hope that will always be the case

Thats awesome right there . I bet Mr. Coomer really would too . I think he just likes to cut up on here . I got a feeling hes straight up . Just not gonna call my dog for me and hand it to me gift wrapped nor would I expect him to . Ill call mine you call yours Ill do my best to find your coon and wont go blind if you find it and point it out even if it beats me no matter the money .

Just kidding the lakes are getting so low around here I saw a catfish with ticks on its back last week . Were still treeing a lot of coons though I think Ill start hunting the young ones out of the boat .

I believe weve drawn out three times before and I'll note that we got our tails whipped by an English redtick coon treeing machine the first night while yours was slick treeing on everything and mine was boo hooing around and being stupid ( You found both his coons for him ), The next time was a pkc hunt where we got beat by rebel and he had the coon lonely and surprise I found his coon that gave him the win and the next time You minused out early and Your hound probably was the only dog hustling dead cast . Ill note You didnt pull anything and were a good sport on the three cast and I only had to tell You you were full of it once . I believe if your ever gonna hunt for big money or a truck You should have kept Patches !You dont have to act so tough big guy You and me both know if your hunting a dud your not gonna win I dont care how good a handler paid or not you are . A coon treeing dog is gonna spank you most of the time whether your a slick handler or not . KEEP THIS IN MIND FROM NOW ON . YOU DONT GET A SECOND CHANCE TO MAKE A FIRST IMPRESSION . You dont want to be under the microscope as I promiss you dont want that reputation

I'm good like that. In my opinion a good handler is someone that knows there dog, rules, & does there homework. I do just that, if only ppl knew how much I hunted & put fourth the effort to get the dog ready for hunts they'd understand why I'm so serious about what I do. Im not a weekend local club hunter like most around us are, I hunt every night of the week when I got 1 I'm pushing & not just 1 drop, but several hours, & that's why I take what I do serious & thats why I get mad when the club gives a scorecard to someone thats may be nice around the club house & may be a good person but don't know the rules to save there life yet never been in a hunt. I do get paid to hunt & when I go to a hunt I try to make sure me & my dog is ready, these local hunts are just to get titles on your dogs & im got to were I could care less about them. They get way to serious over a slip of paper when they dont ever get there dog ready or even know the rules to say they've got cheatef. That's the stuff that drives me off the wall & I couldn't tell you my lifetime earnings, but I've also handled a few late rounds that I didn't get credit for to do I don't know.

The lack of sportsmanship and cheating crap that goes on at hunts is why many people could care less about titles. A good many dogs who have them are paper made dogs who got their titles by slick handlers, poor sportsman and out right cheaters.

Some handlers and many "hired guns" will do anything it takes to get a win including cheating and demonstrating a lack of sportsmanship by not shining or refusing to acknowledge seeing coon treed.

In many cases these days it's not about the best dog winning the cast it's about the best / slickest handler winning.

I'm glad the big money hunts use non-hunting judges and panels on the casts to keep the honest people honest....LOL

I think chuck is just cutting up , but i hope when anyones in that position they will man up and do the right thing . I know it would gnaw at me forever if i didnt . Ill do the right think and am not ashamed to be a do gooder or be a nice guy and that doesnt mean I dont have the dog power and am not a competitive handler . I just have a line I will not cross when it comes to competing . I got to earn it . When one of mine champions out its a real one to me and thats all that matters . I feel a lot better about where the sport is after seeing some of the different views on this . There will always be those who will do whatever to get a win but they better not cheat me as I dont have an ounce of roll over in me . This is an awesome sport I hope we keeping finding places to free cast !

That would be well advised ! It was a very interesting topic several of us had not long ago and some of the ones that said they wouldnt actually do find the other coon but none of us has hunted for 10 grand . I dont have a problem looking at the man in the mirror if Your taking a pop shot . It is an interesting topic and some guys have been honest to say the least that they dont know what they would do .

Character, integrity and honor means a lot more to some than others.

I'm as competitive as anyone and don't like to lose but I can HONESTLY say I never had a hard time sleeping or looking in a mirror after a competition hunt.

I'm glad to see there are a few others who feel the same way.

At the end of the day or hunt a dog doesnt know if he is a champion or not. How bad to you want that title? Hes the same old bisquit eater as before. When it comes to the money I guess it boils down to your personal code. The guys that started me in the hunts were some of the best dog trainers and highest charater men ive known. There are still a great many good men in the hunts money or trophy as this thread has confirmed that to me. I just need to have the best dog and call him like he hunts and ill win my share or Ill be out dogged

I think Mr. Coomer was being honest. He honestly told you he wouldn't help you look for a coon if 10,000 was on the line. That's being pretty honest right there you know what to expect out of him. I have no problem with no one helping but if i find it you better come look then. If you can't see my coon you can bet hundred dollar bill i won't see yours if it was sitting a phone pole.

It amazes me that some think not showing a coon is not cheating. If another handler is having a hard time finding a coon and I find it I will point it out if it means I loose the cast then so be it. The friendships you make coonhunting are worth far more than the plastic trophy or the 10k$. I dont care what anybody says I would rather be broke and have a bunch of true friends than Be a millionare with out a single person I caould call a friend.
