How honest are You ?

I was told recently by a young coon hunter that competitions a lot that if we were in a big money hunt say $10,000 on the line and if my dog treed and he found my coon and it meant that I would beat him that he would not show me the coon Id have to find it on my own . He said thats too much money sorry . I'm just curious but I have found alot of coons that would beat me and pointed them out . For me honesty has to start with me and I would feel like a thief by not pointing out the coon and taking the money knowing my dog didnt win fairly . My question is how many hunters are there out there like that and what would You do ? For the record I have never been in a $10,000 hunt but I know what I would do .

I search for every coon as if it's my own, i don't understand how some guys can go home feeling good about winning by slick handling, i don't mind getting beat if it's because i didn't have the best dog.

Ive been out of the hunts for 10 + years and recently started back and wow its different dogs chop on the ground handlers argue silly stuff they know is not right and some dont even put a light in the tree if it doesnt benifit them . Dogs babble til something trees . kinda shell shocked . I have noticed some of the veteran guys starting to get back in and its pretty awesome to draw them .

I always look for the coon. But there is 1 guy I've drawn that I'll never look for. My female treed several coons in an akc hunt and he wouldn't see any of them. But besides that guy I'll always look

I may not initially find him these LED lights I struggle with and am battling diabetes some . My sight is not as good without glasses unless he looks . Once someone finds him I usually can see them when pointed out but its not from lack of trying for sure . I thought about purchasing an infared scanner like the ones we have at my work kinda expensive Im sure but the only thing worse than them not looking for your coon is them trying to plus every knot or nest when its their dog lol.

well i have been in enough hunts over 20 years to tell you that if it comes to money the paid handlers are going to screw you whatever they have to do to win guaranteed . last hunt i was in i found 6 of the7 coons and cost me the hunt so some of us will still play fair, but you are going to beat every time by the slick handlers

They aren't slick handlers if they do things like that they are low down dishonest people and the real sickening part is I guarantee the dishonesty doesn't stop there i'm sure it starts from the time they awake until the time they lay down!!! It's a real shame that there is no integrity or self worth in most of the younger people and some of the older people!if you have to cheat to win a coon hunt and it makes you feel good about yourself or gives you a sence of worth ,son you are in trouble!!!! Hopefully one day a mans word, name and a hand shake will mean something again!jmo

If my dog wins I want it to be honest, otherwise I can't stand it. I had a win one night with a bell on my dog, I didn't know it was wrong until later. I never cared for that win! I've found many coons that beat my dog but that's ok because I can hold my head up.

I hold myself to very high standards and am proud of it. I have not gotten dogs scratched for handler mistakes just because it would put my dog winnig the cast, have never regretted it either.

Mr. Knuckols it's to bad hunts like that are the norm in Texas. Up here we very seldom see that kinda of behavior.

I learned real quick to not TRUST anyone you draw out with! It don't matter whether they are your best friend, you are riding with them, or they bought you lunch at the club! YOU should go into every tree thinking YOU are going to find the coon and then you don't have anything to worry about!

If YOU find the coon and nobody else or someone else does not want to see it, then there is a procedure you follow.

We have people around here that can't see your coon or help shine for a hunk of tin let alone money. And another one that sees a coon in every tree his dogs trees on first even if it's 8 ft. tall with no leaves. Works if he has a buddy in the cast that will back him. (My turn this time your turn next time.)

Are You serious ? If You spotted the coon You wouldnt point it out ? Of course I missed that if Im reading right your light wouldnt be in the tree ?If thats so its plain to see Your part of the problem . The hunts are about You and win at all cost not the sport or the best dogs . You are misguided about that not being cheating . I hope Your not mentoring Young hunters .Pretty weak !So I guess you feel your hound won the hunt ? Thats what everyones refering to as a counterfit champion or at least what I interpret as one . Made by a low character slick handler.

If not shining anothers persons or dogs tree is an acceptable practice these days is using a thermal imaging device legal for those of us with failing sight ? Man my coon spotting skills are pathetic with diabetees sight problems . I once was pretty good at it . Now if they dont look I struggle .

I'm as fair as the guy standing next to me. I have cost myself several hunts finding the other person's coon. If you cheat me...I won't cheat but you just pissed off an Irishman!

Iv'e seen this no see em or help em in all hunts. If your dog has it and i find it and your not a slick cheater I'll show it to you for sure, found many other handlers coons first, plus most of the time i can hear mine in their deep and probably has the meat, lets score and get to my dog But as someone else said you just as well figure on finding it yourself alot will look and try to burn the tree I want the first few, then all shine ,but for the most part i will find yours, I have laid back after finding it though and let you find it and know if i show will be beat-But i'll show you before the time is up,got to live with myself. rather win honest if i can This will always be a problem what stinks is when you have a 3 dog cast and you show the coon and can plainly see it, they will go blind and burn the time, then your sunk..has happened can you believe it? LOL

if you're in it for the fun then you can help find the coon. if you're in it for the money, it's every man for himself. it's like playing chess. you wouldn't help the other man with the next move would you, if money and title and presteage was on the line. to me, that's being honest. help yourself win and let the other fellow help himself win. otherwise you're just fooling around and the score doesn't matter.

some people mistake competition hunts with pleasure hunts i have enough friends so im not going out there to make buddies with everyone. im not sayin it's right or wrong but nowhere does it say i have to look for ur coon that's part of the game an if ur type of person that has hard time finding coons better find someone to handle ur hound that doesnt. i dont expect anyone to find my coons in my dogs trees, so i guess it dont bother me if someone doesnt show me my coon or dont wanna look for it! IF 10k on the line u better know the rules an better know how to find a coon......
