-- Can you actually "train" a coon dog? (http://forums.ukcdogs.com/showthread.php?threadid=291395)

I have seen two dogs win high scoring breed honors in the world hunt that was trained, most hunters would've killed both dogs. The male dog couldn't run a hot coon 30 feet with out jacking it for an hour, I'm sure he recieved no less than 500 whippings and led down the track until he learned how to trail, he placed second in the world hunt.

The next dog couldn't trail or locate a tree but treed hard when another dog treed a coon for her. It took a year to train her to get on down a track and get treed. She was a English female and was high scoring opposite sex.

She raised a Redbone that was high scoring Redbone in the World Hunt.

You can train about anything if you're willing to work as hard as you want your project to work.

I have a dog treeing coon before it ever leaves the yard. Not 1 dog, but ALL my dogs.

according to john wick, when a pup doesn't work out and its had any kind of fair chance it's becaue the breeder didn't do the job right. if you haul that pup to the woods a couple hundreds times and it's not treeing coons in style it's not your fault. The good dogs find a way to make it, the bad dogs won't make it no matter what we do.

i just can't believe you whip a dog and make it get on down the track. i think the dog would just run away and coward in the bushes.

If you can train a coonhound to track and tree......then why the emphasis on good breedings? We could take any old hound and train it.
