-- Tracker Flash Lights in the Hunts??? (http://forums.ukcdogs.com/showthread.php?threadid=260938)
i say no not because what the collar will reveal but the government is already trying to make us puppets and hunting i do for pleasure and already we have too many rules that are twisted and turned to suit ones own benifit we don't need to be told what equipment we have to have i own 4 differant colored lights and do use them but don't want to be told i have to use them. now a judge that can't judge without a lighted collar on a dog doesn't need to be a judge

Why dont we just hunt them in the daylight. That would be just as stupid as making everyone use a light on there dog wouldn't it.

I think it is something to think about. Man those lights can make you look bad some nights.LOL. But I would vote no on it. I like things the way they are. Just enforce the rules already in place not create new ones.JMO
and most of my places you will see the light maybe 10 min then they are across a mountain so what good would they be?

In 10 yes we will be setting at the truck and a judge will tell us witch dog struck and treed first by looking at his GPS play screen and then a judge will go score your tree. Light or no light it won't make any differance.

Ok lets do the math on this, earlier on this post someone said that the clubs could buy the lights. ok in back woods Kentucky we pull 20 dogs a night on just a reg. UKC hunt, if it's a B&T or a Blue Tick Sec your looking at 30 to 35 dogs a night. So the light cost 20 dollors and let use say you have 35 dogs. Thats 700 dollors that the clubs would be out, that not counting if one gets broke or someone forgets to bring it back. Bottow line is that alot of money for a club to shell out, and there going to get nothing in return. If you haven't been locked in a room for the last three years, you'd know that money ain't so easy to come by these days. I think for the next couple of years, to we see whats going to happen here in the good old U.S.A. We need to use a ARMY term, when it comes to clubs an hunts. K.I.S.S, which means KEEP, IT, SIMPLE, STUPID. If you wanting people to buy them what if they don't. Are you going to tell them, they can't hunt. Now your taking money out of the clubs, and UKC pocket

What do we do if a light malfunctions during the hunt? Do we scratch the dog? Call timeout? Ignore it and keep hunting with 3 dogs lighted and one dog dark? Send them to the garage like they do in NASCAR? Or just shoot tha guy that thought all this up?

So you are saying no one has ever sent their dog out lighted and had the dog come back dark? What world do you live in?
that would be nice if you only 20 dogs a hunt, but that club would have to buy 40 or 50 of the light because you would have to go with the hunt to brings in the most dogs in, and then plus 5. That why if one doens't work, you'd have one to replace the down light. So nice try but it be a little more then two years to pay off the light.

So I'd say the reasons for people not wanting the lights to be manditory would be that of:
1. The integrity of the sport. (tradition)
2. Cost
Any others?

I for one have had the light stop working, because you cut the dog in woods ( where two months ago there was a ice strom) and it running through heavy brush. You will find it on the tree and the light not be on, one quick little turn and it back on. If we were in a comp hunt, I would have had a unfair advantage on the other dogs in the cast.

Sir in some way I can see your point. Your just trying to find a way to keep people from cheeting, but their are still going to be babbling dogs that get first strike on honest strike dogs, and slick handlers that use the rules against younger hunters. I could go on and on about things that aren't sometimes fair about this sport. Something you may want to try, if you don't already is this. When someone calls there dog treed, pick a point on the top of the tree line where the dog is tree at. If that dog starts moving to the left or right of that, or sounds like it is getting deeper or closer to you. Say something to the Judge or the handle, and stand your ground. You don't have to be a smart butt about it but you'll get your point got their. Sometime it work, and sometime it doesn't. More time than not after the hunt is over, you'll heard people saying this or that about the cast they where on. When you ask them, did you ? it to the judge or the cast they say NO. Well heck it's easy to put it to you if you say nothing. Just my thought

So you have a strategic plan for the local clubs. What about the large functions. SETWD's had a record number of entries. One night there were 301 dogs entered. 20 x 301..........

So of these people dont think before you can have the lights on the collars you would have to buy 4 light just in case so one else had the same collar. Next how can you tell from a distance how big the tree is to know if he is still under the tree. Or if buy a creek and when to get a drink. I would hate to get minus for my dog going to get a drink of water if he was on a tree for a hour treeing and just happen to go get a drink to come back to the tree. Just like the gps collars watch on the screen and minus a dog for what the screen says would be bad because it just doesnt tell what the dog does all the time. The gps would be good so if some one call the dog that is out of hearing he would have to tell the judge where the dog is and look at the gps if he is not that way he would get minus.
But the club or some one like the judge would have to have a system with 4 collars so each dog would have one on it .But then what happen when the dog run off and the judge dont get the collar back who pays for it .Next with the light on the collars what happen if it goes dead in the hunt then what what do you do then .i run them on my dogs all the time with the gps and tracker on the dogs so it dont bother me any way they want to do it .
