-- A good reason not to hunt a Walker!! (http://forums.ukcdogs.com/showthread.php?threadid=113788)
russel
im not downing walkers because there winning. hell i hunt with a guy that has walkers and his are pretty good for the most part. but its just that ive hunted with alot of them and yes there have been some good ones but boy there has been alot that slick tree and cant tree but a hot track. im just sayin that you dont see that in other breeds typically. they have too much tree bred in em, "NOT ALL OF THEM" but alot of them. even an honest walker guy will tell you that even if they prefer walkers. ive seen it too many times to believe otherwise. now maybe you have some good ones and thats good, im glad u do but that aint typical. you have to look at the breed overall, not just waht you own. but i know you or alot of other people dont agree and i dont care. its not because i dont own a walker because if i found a good one that caught my eye came along then i would own a walker too. im just goin by what ive seen. but this discussion bout walkers vs. other breeds is so worn out and its ridiculus to argue about it and i dont know why i catch myself in it. you walker guys will always think that walkers are the only dogs that can tree a coon and that other breeds aint worth spit and us off colored breed hunters will keep beatin ya time after time in a "real" coonhunt, not no stinkin competition hunt
lol
All you off color dogs have to do to beat slick treeing walkers is tree a coon .Plus points beat circle! If you all had such coon treeing dogs slick treeing walkers would be a dream come true. Just tree coon & beat slick treeing walkers every night!
good one
well said rgregory well said
That is a very stupid comment to make that most walkers slick tree I go to a coon hunt at least once a week usually and 95% of the time a walker has won the registered class and the nitech casts so they must not slick tree to often
There are good bluetics but you dont hear us walker hunters saying that they are a bunch of slick treeing trash runing mean dogs DO YOU
Now Gentlemen--
in my above post---where did I ever type the word WALKER???
I said slick treeing idots---rough dogs----and dogs backing one another.
I don't care what color it is, if it trees slick or is rough or will leave the country so it can tree it's own coon. That is what was posted.

"There are good bluetics but you dont hear us walker hunters saying that they are a bunch of slick treeing trash runing mean dogs DO YOU"----------Naw, ya'll usually say worse LOL! Of course it's usually true if talking about bluedogs LOL! Just kiddin' guys. Just fannin' the flames LOL.
Hey. The TW breed is kinda like the Yankees or USC and Notre Dame football or Duke basketball. You either love 'em or you are sick to death of hearin' about 'em LOL----PS you also can't deny that they are winners.
I hunt black dogs but I don't have anything against the Walkers, except that everybody and their brother has one and I like to be different and many Walker owners love to flap their gums about how the ONLY decent dogs are spotted dogs (of course they're owners like that in every breed, but they're so many Walker owners out there that the sheer #s of ignorant loudmouths has to be greater there than in the other breeds combined lol!)
Y'all have a nice day.....

slick treein
i dont konw how to explain it and i aint talkin bout comp. hunting cuz im talkin about real coonhuntin . but ive hunted mostly with redbones, curs, and walkers and have never walked to a slick tree with redbones, or curs but have walked to many with walkers. now maybe i was just huntin with some bad ones but there sure was alot of bad ones. you'd think at least more than a couple would have done better if walkers are so good.all i know is what ive seen with my own two eyes and "what i havent seen with my own two eyes" lol but i do like a walkers speed. they are fast. and alot of them are loud tree dogs. the only real problem i have with them is that alot of times they grab the first tree they smell coon on and dont check it out to see if the track went on before they start blowin the top out. other than that they aint too bad other than bein ugly. except them blanketbacks i like them ok but not a one of em is as good lookin as my redbones.
Ever Wonder?
Wonder why there are 20 Walkers to every one of everything else.
Well, I speak my mind, and here it is, everything else SUCKS!!!!!

Everybody says,
There are good ones and bad ones in every breed, but Im sick of hearing it.
Ive raised other breeds, and none of them really turned out to be worth a darn, You couldnt give me a Super Staked registered pup, out of a Top producer if it wasnt out of a Walker.
So if you like the Bootin Bawlin, old timey want to bees, that you have to brag about, then try to sell, thats your business.
But leave our Walkers alone!!!
To all you Walker owners, pet your hound, and tell them Richard Nethery loves them!!

The question was, " A GOOD REASON NOT TO HUNT WALKERS ?"
Did you want their " Names and Adresses " or just their Names?

I am just kidding. Personally, I don't care what you hunt. If it makes you happy I am tickled pink.
Man, you can just feel the "Love" on this thread. You've gotta love it!!!!!

its all in good fun
i know we get heated discussions on here but i dont have nothin against no one on here. hell if it wasnt for these arguments on here it wouldnt be as interesting.
Tracey Jones(PLOTTS)
There are good and bad dogs in every breed, I have been in the woods with some great hounds, some were walkers some were blueticks some were blackntans, and some were plotts, The plott hounds that were great coonhounds in my experience were owned by Bear hunters or pleasure hunters, many of these plotts were cross trained to hunt coon or bear and they were great at both, and then the pleasure hunters had some great hounds and the competition hunts just did not appeal to them, some of my close friends who are die hard plott fans will buy a walker "if"it can hunt bear as well as coon, when defining a great hunting dog it will depend on what your perspective is, I hunted with a blackntan man for several years who would not purchase a blackntan unless it would hunt coon and bobcat, an attribute that might be admired in a hound by one person may be despised by another person, the treeing walker people are not my enemies, the liberals who are against hunting game of any kind with any hound are the real enemies, I really wish we could get along and respect each others preferences concerning preferred breeds and desired traits in OUR hounds, HAPPY HUNTING!!!!!!

Not only do they look like walkers, but they are democrats too; when they open their eyes and see the light, everything changes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! LOL!!!!

walkers
If anyone wants to come up to Ohio for a hunt than just let me know. It will be fair as fair gets all you have to do is beat a slick treeing, ill, trash running walker.
SO IF ANYONE IS UP TO IT THAN GIVE ME A CALL AT (419-253-4669)
trevor
your taking things to personally. im not sayin your dogs are that way, just that ive hunted with a good many of them and alot of them are taht way.and ive never said they were ill. just dont take things so personal like i or anyone else is directing it towards your own dogs. you cant be that way on this board cuz everyone has there own opinion and they are goin to voice it
brandon
I am not taking it personal but I dont like it when people talk bad about the walker breed especially when they dont have a dog to back it up. I know some people who talk bad about walkers and dont even have a dog that will tree a coon well so that is why I stand up for walkers
i dont blame ya
i dont blame ya for backin up walkers. i back up redbones too.
%age's,%age's....%age's...yet no one can give a reasonable explination, aside from all the blowing.....why is the walker %age at such a lopsided high?
Think about it....I'm not saying there aren't off color dogs that I would love to hunt with or own, I am not COLOR BLIND. That said....why are there so many walkers out there?
When the "other breed" guy's can answer this question then we will talk %age's.
Don't let em get to ya Trevor, the best hound I have followed in 25plus years have been walkers....followed some good "off color" dogs too....but the ones that stand out and wish I could get one more pup from, have all been Treeingwalker Coonhounds!

Let the dog do the talking.
When I first started hunting ( almost 40 yrs. ago) Walkers made up the majority, and were really growing as a breed. I owned a male out of Carolina Casey that would get treed in a heart-beat. He made a Gr.Nt.Ch. for someone else. I also owned a grandson to Rob's Danny Boy that was a picture to look at, and would tree his own at 7 or 8 mths. old. The first real coondog I ever owned that pleased me was a Bluetick. The difference I saw back then in the Blues and Walkers that I owned was; The blues were not as wild, and not as hard to break. This was before anyone owned a shocking collar, and the only way to break a dog was to catch them on the track and beat the " daylights" out of them.
I like the mouths better on the blue dogs. The walkers that I owned had squealy mouths on track, with good mouths on the tree. The blue dogs had pleasing mouths to me on the track, and good loud mouths on the tree.
The walkers that I owned were more of a hot nose dog. I remember hunting with a good friend that hunts walkers, and he was hunting a 7yr. old Nt.Ch. Walker. I was hunting a two year old blue dog that had never been comp. hunting. The walker struck on the creek, and my bluetick treed a coon behind us by himself. The walker could not move the track; he took it so far and that was it. I went to my blue, saw the coon, brought him back and put him in on the track. He hit it off, never slowed down, took the track on out and treed. We both walked to the tree and saw the coon. I have hunted blues ever since.
It is a show of ignorance to sterotype any breed of hound. I have seen cold nosed walkers, and hot nosed blues. I have seen lying redbones, and lying blues. I have heard several walker men make statements like," I have never seen a Blue dog that could tree a coon." That is utterly ridiculous. I have hunted with good dogs from every breed, and dogs are like people, their color does not determine whether they are good or bad, but it's what's on the inside.
Hunt the breed of your choice, and have fun. Life is too short not to.
