You're right Show Girl. I was going to put a video of my 8 week old treeing a wild coon, but I didn't want to see a video of one treeing with milk on his lips.

Not consitent yet but I got one now that's 7 months old and has split treed twice and had a coon both times I'm talking about going hunting to do it. Once he was .73 and the other he was 800 yds no feeder buckets

You said a consistent level which looks like most every night. I never had but a couple at 2 years old that you could take by their self and tree a coon summer or dead in the "winter." I had a dog that won a walker sectional hunt one spring at 13 months with 75 dogs in it and could not tree a coon by the time he was 3 years old. Just blew up!

doubters
I thought this post was about the earliest starting pups? I should of known there would be some that haven't seen it so they obviously think it can't be so.

no not the earliest starting. Earliest that can do it CONSISTANT, not just one time or once a month. Consistant like a old dog, every night,a few times a week.lol Big differance

Say what you like you don't know me or anything about me and I could not care less. Its not like I am trying to sell digs or hire to handle or train dogs. I just wanted to share about two outstanding pups I had, one that has went on to be a leader on CHKC and a PKC SS semifinalist and another that is my own nice pleasure hound. No competition here. You win.
I have a 7 year old that struggles with the "consistent" part!
But, I've had a 6 month old tree more than one coon a night, several nights per week. He started running and treeing (not barking at others) at 5 months old, and then I immediately started hunting him by himself.

Until you have one its hard to believe, but some just seem to be born knowing how to get it done, my huntin buddy called me one night and said he had to show me something, i figured he had bought another world beater. When we got to the woods he pulled out a half grown pup (17 wks old) i thought he was jokeing. That pup left on the run, got struck, worked a nice track, came treed, and just blew the top out. He let that pup tree for a good 10 minutes before we went in and looked at his coon.
That was 2 years ago and there has been no goin backwards, blowin up, or burnin out, that pup was just born a coondog. He is outa insane Cain.
They dont grow on trees but they are out there.

I didn't breed him, raise him, or train him, but I hunted with him a lot when he was a pup.
He treed his first split tree at an early age (4-5 months), but his first hunt was the weekend after he turned 6 months old. He won the hunt and never looked back.
He was a fun pup to watch go through the hunts. UKC and PKC.
I wish he was closer to IOWA I would have a female out of him any day.

I start taking them as soon as a tracking collar fits on them. This blue dog isn't 2 yet and has been in her fair share of hunts and done her fair share of winning! It's up to you as a handler/owner to know when, where, and what hunts to put them in. Sometimes that's the difference between making or breaking a good young dog.
