Well I'm certainly not worried about a 110. A size restriction would be a step in the right direction. I still worry about 160's with pups and terriers but I could handle that. Honestly I wouldn't complain to much if they just outlawed baited conibear sets on the ground. I don't worry much about Conibears in trails, because most dogs are just gonna step over them or knock them over. I also don't mind baited sets that are 5' off the ground like a lot of states require. Really the only thing I have a problem with is 220's in baited cubbies and coyote snares with dispatch springs or very aggressive locks. A dog usually won't fight a snare too bad and a guy will have time to get them out before they die if they have relaxing locks. But the baited conibear sets have got to go. If I was looking to kill dogs I can't think of a much more efficient set.

I agree completely with your last post. The only disagreement that I had with you was the outlaw statement. We have to remember that trappers vote also. proposing size restrictions and baited bucket sets is entirely different that banning conibears. Then the trappers will want to go after our free casting of hounds or something. Have a good day, pleasure debating with you.

Conibear Trap
I wasn't sure what one of these traps looked like, so I went to "Yahoo" and typed in "Conibear Trap". Some of the pictures that came up were purdy nasty. There were three Coonhounds shown dead, two Walkers, one wearing a DC30 and a Black and Tan. There was also 4-5 house dog pictures posted by HSUS.

I agree that baited conibears on dry land need to go. Most of the good trappers that I know don't use them now anyway. DP traps are much safer, easier, and more productive. I am a trapper, and I use 280's and 330's to catch beaver around here, and that is the only way I'll trap them. But I set in deep leads, and in places where there is no chance of catching off game. If all trappers were careful about how and where they set, it wouldn't be a problem anyway. Unfortunately, when the coon prices go up, every half wit in the area sets out every trap they own, and they don't care about anyone else around them. So I hope coons don't sell at all this season. The fox, and coyote trappers in general are much better trappers. Reason being, unlike coon, not just any knucklehead can go out and catch them. It takes skill, and work.
