1. Yes
2. No they can not be used to score a dog in any way
For those of us who judge 99% of the time, it puts us at more of a disadvantage: we have to listen to 3 other dogs, call our own dog, run a stopwatch (usually on multiple dogs), keep scores, judge the cast, try not to lose your pencil, and now we have to do all that while watching our garmin. Not sure I have enough hands for all that. I like being able to use a garmin, I just don't see how those who judge can get it all done? I'm not mad or upset, just making a point.

So being that you can use tracking systems during the hunt, can one sit there with a beep beep tracking system and wave it around making noise? If they can it would be extremely aggravating, but if they can't doesn't it give that person a disadvantage?

i wouldnt even feel right with a garmin powered on during a hunt.
I judge most every time I go to a hunt, let someone tree a dog after a beep on one of these units or tell me something happened on their Garmin that doesn't agree with a ruling I make! It'll happen.....

You cant call a dog treed with a garmin any way. My garmin shows my dog treed alot of times when i know he aint. If i struck him treed every time the garmin said he was id be 400 minus in no time.

With the way dogs are trained to hunt these days, Garmins in the hunts will do nothing but help the hunts go much smoother.
Its getting to the point with 4 dog casts anymore aren't any fun because too many dogs split and running all over the place. This will help casts head to dogs that cannot be heard and it will also help in finding the easiest route to split treed dogs.
Most importantly it will help with dogs that are in danger or potentially in danger.
We have been using our Garmins in our club buddy hunts since Garmins were legal with UKC rules. The hunts are competitive and the Garmins have done nothing but helped the casts run smoothly. It has also been OK to use a Garmin in the HTX hunts without issue.
The object of the game is for a cast to tree as many coon as possible in a period of 2 hours. If a Garmin helps a cast do this, I am in favor.

And it's a very good point. Look at the routine use of the timeout rule, certainly not as intended by the rules. And what about the old rule on scoring dogs out of order? Again, routinely ignored on most casts. You really think these casts in the future will not be scoring dogs and following them with Garmin?

Went way overboard on this rule.what would be wrong with everyone carrying their tracking device of any type in off mode?Only to be used in time out.
