Ill admit I love getting all the newest best stuff out there. I'm like a little kid at christmas waiting on my packages to arrive! Everytime my wife sees empty boxes laying around I get the rolling eyes and questions about what was that, but she really doesnt care or at least can't make too much of an issue cause you should see the dam shoes in her closet! Do I need any of that stuff? Hell no but its what I like and there could be far worse things to spend your money on. What gets her is all the dogs Ive got that was a constant arguement for a while till she finally realized it was pointless! I always told her what difference did it make to her how many there are if she doesn't even know - I can have new dogs in the kennel for 6 months before she even knows about it. So what difference does it make - she doesnt tend to them. Anytime I get another puppy I just come in through the garage open the back door and throw the pup in and go back outside. By the time I come back in that little pup will be sitting on the sofa watching TV! LOL She knows I'm gonna do what I'm gonna do but she also knows that I'm going to take care of my family first and would never put dogs or hunting stuff before them. All the newest hunting gear doesnt make a dog any better or a trainer any better if they don't have good sense and know how to use it. An idiot with a shock collar will do more damage than good. GPS Trackers and a well trained dog can make for a safer and more enjoyable hunt but sometimes it is nice to just step back and leave all the junk behind and just hunt without a box full of chargers to tote around. It still takes lots of time in the woods and some training knowledge to make a real finished dog and nothing you can buy can be substituted for that!

Then he smokes your @$$ and gives you a ride back.

I went to roll a window down one night and there was no handle. The guy gives me the vise grips he has on the drivers side because he wouldn't replace handles or get another pair of vise grips

X2
I know a guy that runs dogs that if you saw him you would want to give half your lunch to just so he could have a meal. His chaps are all duct taped - half the stuff he pulls out has tape all over it lol but he has some real hounds and he knows dogs and is honest and more polite to everyone than most you will ever meet. The strange flip side of this coin is the fact that this guy is worth over .5 billion. He could buy anything he wanted have pros handle and train all his dogs but thats not why he is in it. Its for his own enjoyment and he obviously doesnt care what other people think about it!

lol don't cost much more today than it ever did . gas and dog food cost a lot more but i make alot more as well [ before i got on disability lol ] but on a second note i still drive my 68 ford f-100 and still use the dog box i made 30 + years ago and i found plenty of coons with my old carbide light . i paid 20.00 for the lite i use now, got it at wal-mart and haven't had trouble finding eyes to look at . i wear plain old rubber boots [ might get my feet wet occasionaly ] . coon hunting to me is the least expensive type hunting i do . now my hog dogs well that's another story lol .

Carl,, I've been to Alaska twice and found Gold just about anywhere i stuck a shovel in the ground up there ,,But yeah there are some dumb boneheaded stunts on that show,,If you look at some of the break downs they have it looks like Grease Worms may have been attacking alot of things,,,Fire Todd Whatever his name is and they can let you and me run the show I've ran Ripper and Dozers too ,But yeah it is mainly staged,,,God save the grease gun, they must be a rare item in Alaska .

Most stuff is because we just want it . Gas depends on where you live and what you do . Dog food is how many you want & most of us have to many .
I like to hunt some ,show some and in decent weather like to go to the clubs and field trial & water race . These dogs have weaned me off most other things I liked to do in the past . I'm feeding 7 now & 3 are pups but without being exact it's around a couple hundred a month for feed and then annual shots & dog licenses (live in town) it all adds up to scary if you sit down and add it up plus there's no use having them if you don't do SOMETHING with them so that gets you to what and where you go and what it costs . If I just took 1 dog in the summer to a local club and entered in the show, field trial, water race and then maybe the hunt (if I got any energy left) and I've spent $50 in entries . It's 45 miles one way to my club and of course I get hungry at some point . Getting older I think about quitting or cutting way back but then I look around and see a lifetime of stuff I've accumulated and think not yet .

i'd like to get some nice things too but i think about the cost of long term care in an old folks home and how much long term care insurance cost. i know i can't afford a gps, a good coon dog and a nice box. i have a great retirement and my house if paid off but there are still things that are more important than new toys. before i buy a new truck, to replace my two 90 ford rangers, i'll give more to my church. but each of us much work out our salvation with fear and trembling.

Coonhunting

is way less expensive than bass fishing. My buddy & I have a system worked out that I have the boat & truck both payed for & he always pays for boat gas. Even if we don't fish a tournament & just fun fish it gets pretty expensive with gas prices like they are & boat maintenance & electronics are a totally different subject all together. As far as tackle we buy a lot off line at the best possible price we can find to our door. I just fish the basic colors nowadays & don't have to have the latest hot baits. I keep it simple & throw very basic. When I sold my Stratos I bought new in 2003 I figured it out after getting 5 big green trash bags of soft plastic baits alone not including other tackle. lol Believe me coonhunting is by far cheaper than bass fishing & it gets you into shape as a bonus. Actually ahve been hunting off of mules this winter some & thinking about going back to hunting hard. I need the excersize. Anyone want tobuy a 1995 Dyna Trak 180 STE with a 1995 Evinrude Intruder 150 in top shape ??? lol

a carhart coat 100 bucks

blue jeans 20 bucks (i go through alot of pants lol)

jersey gloves (3 bucks a pair) usually go through 3 pairs a season

dont own a tracker

dont own a shocker.

i got plenty of huntin were i live so i walk every were when i hunt and when i do go other places to hunt with buddys i got a home made dog box that i got the wood from were i work along with the screws so i got a free dog box also.

i just got an old rusted up 1978 dog power wagon 250 that i paid 600 bucks for and its my every day driver also

boots (i were my work boots huntin also) 150 bucks

50 lb bag of dog feed 30 bucks.

i usually keep 2 hounds at a time. an older dog and a younger dog so i go through 50 lb of feed o every 6 days so say a bag every week cost 1500 bucks a year so dog feed cost me the most

so im lookin at about 2500 a year just to coonhunt. well a dog lives from 7-15 years without havin a accident were they get killed a light last 3-5 years boots last about a year and i go through about 5 pairs of huntin jeans a year and ive had the same coat for 10 years. so yea its expensive but its well worth it because usually 100 hides a year brings close to 600-1200 bucks depending on the price so its not a total loss of money

TWO DOGS EAT 50 POUNDS EVERY 6 DAYS? MY BIRD DOG EATS 50 POUNDS IN 35 DAYS. MINE SHOULD BE DEAD BY THIS CALCULATION

Very true. I think I spend close to $100 a month just on dog food. Gas to travel to hunting spots is the next one.

My hunting gear is prob worth way more then my dog box & hunting truck. I have a old wooden dog box that was built in 2010, both are getting pretty seedy lol.

And there is more expensive dog sports out there, 3 years ago I got into conformation showing German Shorthairs. I have prob spent more on buying 2 shorthairs then I did buying all my coonhounds all together(without factoring in travel cost to get a few of the coonhounds). Entry fees are higher for CKC conformation shows then UKC nite hunts
