-- Handler Made Dogs (http://forums.ukcdogs.com/showthread.php?threadid=382766)

Whether it's big names(handlers/dogs) or politics(popularity) this happens everywhere, not just in coondogs. The only thing anyone can do is decide how we handle ourselves. There are those of us that will stick to the rules. There are those who don't. There are those of us who will stick up for what is right, and those who won't, or say nothing. It is each individuals choice to participate. The honest people can only continue to stand up for what is right and hopefully one day we will take over the world.

Well, you gotta remember, there are a lot of ways for a dog to get a win; he can dominate the cast, first and first; or he can be the only one left with plus points after everybody else got scratched for off game. Read the hunt results, how many NTCH wins you see with 25 or 50 plus; suppose they dominated the cast? Think I'm kidding, read some of the breed boards; some of these guys get real excited about a CH win with 25 plus, and people just keep patting each other on the back that ole' Joe is doing so well in the hunts. I guess it's just a personal preference, depending on what you want to haul to the hunts. Tom

You may have had the best dog that night and it only ended up with 25 plus. It doesn't tell you what happend during the hunt. Every dog makes mistakes. You don't have to score a thousand points for the dog to have looked good. On bad nights it is all to possible to come in with a low score and end up with a win. Regardless of the points that was still the best dog there on that night, maybe not the next but on that night it was top dog.

As far as cheaters, on a cast with a hunting judge it is up to a vote on almost everything that is scored or happens on the cast or put a ? on it and take it back. I have seen that most times if one person will have a set and tell it like it is others will agree.

I saw 12 1/2 plus points win first place and the handler said he was embaraced at such a low score taking a win. I told him to be proud of it, he's dog won over five or six casts that night. His dog did a good job on a terrible night that the coons did not move. It does not get better than that and if you think it does you need to wake up to the real world.

I have been compitition hunting for over 50 years. Yes, I have been cheated a few times, but in most cases it was my own fault for letting it happen.
Very, very few times can a cheater get by with it if the other cast members are honest. It up to each hunter to be honorable and respectful in the woods.
The only time when you 'are screwed' is when it is a three dog cast and the other two are CHEATING BUDDIES. Then you can pack your bags and go back the the clubhouse. Your 'snowball' just fell into hell. LOL ('ben there and done that' and when I got back, I informed the Master of Hounds of what was going on!!!)

Thats why you need to get a plott dog they don't have to have handler help they just do it on their own and show you the coon.
