-- How Late Is Too Late For a Dog To Start? (http://forums.ukcdogs.com/showthread.php?threadid=2687)
Had a male walker of Yadkin River Champ years ago that did not step foot in the woods till he was 4 years old...He was a grand show and didn't want to scuff him up...
Anyway second night in the woods he fell treed alone on with his own coon and was a 100% accurate treeing machine till the day he died ..

Dawg I hunt now started around 2. As long as I see progress I keep trying. I really started to enjoy working with the quirky ones. Never know what to expect with the oddballs. Keeps it interesting and exciting.
John Carroll still posts on here, maybe he'll see this old thread and answer if the dog turned out. Be interesting to know. Anyone contact him?

I am interested in breeding dogs. I have held true that a dog must start before its 13 month of age. I also don't mess with a dog much such as laying drags, etc. I am looking for natural ability. If a dog doesn't demonstrate some natural ability, it will not be used for breeding at my house. JMO
Now that being said I will give a dog until 24 months old before I stop trying to start it. As I see it a 2 year investment of time is a costly investment for me.
