I've been mentally thinking about a breeding that would require that I travel to Missouri.
The stud fee is $300.00, and I'm not a "one shot wonder" type of breeder. I figure an overnight stay, and breeding the female twice.
That leaves me two tanks of diesel fuel (one there, and one back), current local price is $2.35 a gallon. I have a 40 gallon tank. That's 94 dollars, per tank. Hotel and eats....find me a hotel room less than $50.00, and eat on the road for two days for less than $50.00....
Bottom line, I'll have about $600.00 in the trip by the time I pay the stud fee.....
Registration fees are registration fees....anyone can look those up.
I buy the 100cc bottles of Safeguard goat wormer for puppies. That bottle is just a little over 20.00 at the local farm and fleet store. I usually don't give 2 week old pups safeguard, so I threw in another $10.00 for puppy wormer.
No kidding, I pay about $30.00 buck for a sack of high quality puppy food...
I took the prices for the vaccine directly off the web site immediately prior to typing them. I did not calculate the shipping charges, and you have to have vaccine shipped next day air...so it's not cheap, but I did not include shipping charges.

oak ridge, your 100% right !! & thats not including the cost of titling your female so you got a more valuable product.
Just trying to help out but at Jeffers Pet Supply you can get 25 doses of Vac. with the five major diseases plus Corona for a 100 dollars.

I would say Oak Ridge is actually being conservative. His numbers assume nothing pops up along the way which often does when raising pups. First he allows nothing for all the hours spent raising these pups and to do it right it takes alot of time. I also in addition to everything he has listed take each of mine to the vet at 6 weeks to check hearts for murmers and general health checkup. My bitches make 2 trips to vet while pregnant 1 after. There alot of bedding changes in 6 weeks. the list goes on. To raise pups right it is not cheap.
The thing I find real funny about this whole thing is I bet 99% of the people on here have bought a lap dog for 600 to 1000 that is going to do absolutly nothing for you and has no chance at winning big money.

Guys, I thought this was an interesting post before it turned into an argument over how much it costs to raise pups. I'll try to get it back on track.
Me personally my best dog came out of a cross from two non titled registered dogs and was more or less given away as a puppy to someone who would hunt it and give it a chance. Hes not titled but probably could be if I would put him in some hunts.
I have also raised a litter of pups from a big name stud dog and those turned out pretty well but no better than pups I could have bred on my own. My only experience with a high dollar pup hasnt turned out yet. She costed 400$ at six weeks old and is now a little over two years old. She does allright but nothing special.

Rarely do any of the post on this forum stay on the straight and narrow. That is why it called an open forum. Joe was simply trying to show where some of the cost is in pups and pop you come and tell him his is not right. Sorry but if you are not giving pups their shots and worming and filing for the proper papers and so on your pups are inferior to mine. No soap box here just facts.

I would like to see a run down of what you are giving them and what it cost you.I can see if a guy is in my eyes cutting corners not taking them or their females to vet. Stud fees vary if your not paying stud fees that would reduce cost the stud I use is 500. You cant save money on papers unless you only put them in one registry. If you keep pups outside and not in a heated and air conditioned room that reduces cost. Heck maybe you know where a guy can buy these shot for a buck or two a piece. By all means teach me where. I am not against saving money but I will not do it at expense of the quality of my pups or their health.
besides all the expense, sometimes something can go wrong. one of my females had the first one to get lodged and that was over $400 toget the others delivered with out losing the female. there is a lot to look at. i have lost money on most of my pups. my pleasure is getting them to some one who is going to put some time in them and make coon dogs out of them. some times i pick the right person and sometimes not. i got my last liter into what i consider good hands and hope they keep them in the woods.

you have lost everything.
Salt Creek Jenny was one of the winningest females around a few years back. She made it into the final four at two different (UKC & PKC) World Hunts. She was out of a litter that sold for $400.00 per pup. That was back in 2000. I bought a male littermate to her at 7 weeks of age and still feed him today.
A recent UKC World Champion was bought for $1500 but that was as a one year old. She was bought from the breeder.
Isn't anyone going to ask horner not to post while he is on medication? LOL. I have heard Colonel is a nice dog.

I GET MOST OF MY DOG SUPPLIES AT GRABERS HUNTING SUPPLY IN LOOGOOTEE IN
I PAY ALITTLE OVER 2 DOLLARS A DOSE FOR 5 WAY PUPPY SHOTS, AND 23.00 DOLLARS A BAG FOR 40# BAG OF BLACK GOLD ULTIMATE PUPPY . THATS ABOUT THE BEST PUPPY FEED AROUND. IF YOU ARE SO INTENT ON THE COST , YOU MUST ALSO CONSIDER THE PERFORMANCE MONEY YOU SHOULD BE GETTING OUT OF ALL THOSE EXTRA NICE PUPS WHEN THEY GROW UP. SURELY A COUPLE GOOD PUPS SHOULD WIN ENOUGH TO PAY THE PERFORMANCE NOMINATION FEES. AND SOME EXTRA.
IF YOUR NOT GETTING PUPS THAT TURN OUT THAT GOOD YOU NEED TO CHECK THE PROGRAM , BECAUSE YOUR WAISTING ALOT OF MONEY FOR NOTHING.

Guys
If you own your own stud dog what about the cost of him, the good quality females you buy with your hard earned cash ? also yes it's very true if you go pay to breed to a stud you usually have a lot of cost indued as joe said. Chris & I only buy females we think will do their part & have not regretted it yet , but it helps if you have a very dominant stud that crosses on just about everything. raising pups is something you have to enjoy because it is a job & you can sometimes get a little burnt out having 3,4,or 5 litters running around at once but i'd say most pups cost on average of two to three hundred at 8 to 10 weeks & is a very reasonable cost counting cost to raise pups & promotion of your kennell or stud.
