Please, if your trying to help the cause STOP!!! We get it, your not going to show up at the hunts. Fine, but dont try and put unnessary bumps in the road for the ones that want to.
For you to say Cur people havent earned the right to be hunting with hounds is crazy. I cant think of one person in the hound breed thats worked any harder than Mr. Ladner. You of all people should know that. The BMC is your Cur of choice.
I've always respected what you had to say, and still do, but if it wast for some ol sorry cur every d@mn one of the hound breeds(Minus Plott) would still be in someones foxhound pack!!!!
Hounds men need to realize what thier doing. By down gradeing the curs, and thinking thier better than the curs, and no cur has earned the right to hunt against a hound, thier only cutting to roots out from under the tree they live in.
Folks like it or not we're ALL in the same boat. We're sportsmen that go afield with a dog. Now if stupidity, and/or pride forces you to sit on different sides of the boat, fine but remember when that sob starts to sink, we're all going down!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hound and Cur & Feist

Like it or not everything I said is true. I can't see any movement in this direction until the different breeds have associations and are are UKC charted. Why aren't the Cur people hunting in the PKC events where they can hunt with the hounds. Let me guess it is easyer to complain than to compete.

well what about the guy's like me that are 2 or 3 hrs north of any pkc held hunt.why should i have to travel that far when i have a club 7 miles away.and also consider that alot of pkc hunts are held during the week hard for the working man that works at 6:30 then next morn.maybe this will never get off the ground but atleast these people are trying.if some people don't like it thats fine also bit i'd like the idea of not haveing to travel.

I own hounds and a cur! I comp. hunt my hounds some in UKC but not PKC. I comp. hunt at my convenience when my work schedule allows it. I do not hunt PKC because with it you are either in or out. You can not compete with the guys that make every hunt within several states by hunting once in a while. With UKC if you have a good enough dog you can earn it's championship degrees by hunting in a hunt once in a while. I along with most hunters can't compete in the state and breed races hunting no more than I can. I, a hound owner, think UKC should allow the curs to compete, they are a different breed just like Blutics, Walkers and B&T's. A coondog is a coondog, and may the best dog win irregardless of breed!

Not much happening with the post. Need to get to work on it and express your views. Check out the coonhound message board, there are many replies.
A lot of people have recommended that the leopard curs be allowed to hunt with the hounds and I think it may happen in the near future. Don't look for the leopards to go out and beat up on the hounds, they will win their share, but don't kid yourselves, there are a lot of good hounds in competition that are coon dogs alone or with another dog. Also in the hounds, there are some babbling idiots that get deep quick, too quick for me, go five or six miles and get treed most times with nothing in the tree. I don't think I could enjoy hunting if I had to hunt a dog like that and I don't really want to draw out in a competition hunt with a dog like that. As you all know, it doesn't take an excellent coon dog to beat you in a hunt, but I would rather get beat by a coon dog than a babbling idiot. If the leopards get put in with the hounds, the hound men should then remember what it was like to hunt with a good pleasure dog rather than a competition dog. DanN

For a group of folks that think their curs are better and wouldn't own a hound ... why would you want to hunt with hounds ? That doesn't make sense ....


Hounds and Curs have been around the same amount of time ... like it or not there is a reason hounds got out in front and there is even a reason that Walkers dominate the hound breeds.

Hound hunters and Cur hunters are the same people .... if your typical hound hunter would have found a good cur before he found a good hound ... he'd be a cur hunter and vise versa .

There is no need to try and compare or complain ... curs won't ever get to compete with hounds in UKC ... not ever , so it's a waiste to complain about it.

Now , if the Leopard breeders want to change their name and get serious ... then it's not up to UKC or the hound hunters to do it for them .... we're waiting ... come get some !!!!

As for the Leopard Cur they hunt like a hound so I can see them eventually be added into the hound mix but as for the rest of the Cur & Feist I just can't see it. Bluedog4ever as for the driving distance you will just have to do as I do when I go to a hunt. I drive 2 hours to 1 club over 2 1/2 to another and 1 hour to another. Your only other option is to start a club in your area and have hunts there.

Justin, A name change for the leopard curs can be done quickly if need be.
The walkers done it several years ago when they changed it from "running walkers" to treeing walkers. I guess the leopards could be "treeing leopards". Don't worry, the leopard dogs are not going to dominate the hunts, they will be lucky to possibly win a few, but the hound hunters will know they are in the woods with a coon dog.
