Good honest coonhunters from the 80's

I WOULD LIKE TO THANK THE OLD MEN THAT I WAS LUCKY ENOUGH TO GET TO HUNT WITH WHEN I WAS YOUNG THAT NEVER TRIED TO SEE A COON THAT WASN'T THERE OR ANY OF THE OTHER DISHONEST BEHAVIOR THAT HAS BECOME ACCEPTABLE AND COMMON PRACTICE BACK IN THEM DAYS A MAN WOULD BE EMBARRASSED DO THAT SORT OF THING BUT THESE DAYS THE MAN WHO TRYS TO EXPLAIN WHY ITS NOT FAIR TO THE OTHER CAST WHEN YOU PLUS A SPIDER EYE IS THE BAD GUY FOR NOT PLAYING ALONG WITH THE GAME

If ukc went back to nor hunting judges with integrity like back then the only thing that would happen is all the breeds and clubs and the youth would benefit!!!!!back then those judges told it the way it was and any foolishness you went home!!!!!

So how can we get people with some intergrity back into these positions and can the dishonest ones? Its gotta start somewhere.

honesty

If I get to where I can hunt again you may hunt with me anytime and not feel like your getting shafted. The young guns are gunghoe and all they want out of it is a little yellow slip! Don't ever play dumb with preachers either. I know of one that is nothing but a snake! NUFF SAID

I'm 47 hunted a lot of hunts in the eighties and I remember people trying to plus spider eyes, fighting dogs, babblers, unruly handlers, remember the 2 nails taped together with reflecter tape and fishing line to throw up in a tree, guys pitching dogs. None of this is new to the hunts. I think it falls into the same category as the dogs were better way back when. We tend to remember the good times from our past.

Its not whether the judge is a non-hunting or a hunting judge its whether he has the ability to know/understand what dogs are doing and then has the kahunas to make the right call.

Dean like I said I was lucky enough to come up around some good honest coonhunters It makes it easier to be honest about it when everybody else is being honest too.It may just be that I was just hunting in the right clubs back then either way I'm thankful to the ones who were honest coonhunters that I hunted with back then.

To much buddy system the good non hunting judges take. Care of that yes people been lying and stealing for decades but back then mans word and name meant something still!!!! Ktoday they will sell out. For a yellow slip as far as the dogs being better sme yes some things no but I think the men back then had a lot more integrity than what we got out there today! Jmo I would like to start offering that at our club bit you can't get anybody that wants to do anything these days, face it coon hunters are a dieting breed!!!!!

Re: Re: honesty

You can hold it against me, like I give a good rats *** ! But if you have not seen situations like the kinds that honest people are discussing then who the heck are you? Are you even old enough to remember those days? Hey Preacher??? You really have no clue.

Dean, I think your spot on about the way it really was. Have you ever drawn out, get out to where your going and the judge says,Ok guys there will be no minus trees. If we do then we will be the only cast that comes in with a minus point!

Yep. Actually its probably less cheating now as back then. Just how longs it been since anyone has heard of the string and reflectors? LoL. That's a old one.

Re: Re: honesty

Hey I really don't mean to sound like I'm trying to down you, or preachers, it's just that we have one here that's a sorry sono***un. I know precisely what these guys are saying and there right!! Any way, I should have not jumped like I did but back in the early to mid eightes it was a major problem. I do believe it is worse now because that money thing is raring its ugly head!!

THE JOKE OF THE DAY !!!!

Another thing to remember with net/cell phones we hear about incidents in real time, we know who won what right after the big cast, or if something bad happens. In the eighty's you heard but it took a while to circulate . I don't know if its more now than then, but we sure can find out about it a lot quicker.

You can't worry about being the bad guy for not playing along.

How 'bout the world famous coonhunter who would keep a small possum [live] stuffed in his carharts? throw him up in the right tree at the right time.
Catching coon in tied up gunny sacks?
I agree, I think it is better now than even 15 years ago.

agreed, but if u don't play along then you're labeled a trouble maker, and buddy system will do every cheating thing they can to make sure your dog never wins its cast period. most comp hunters know this is how they do it. it it it chit

Or the World Famous Legend that got caught throwing 2 small reflectors tied to fishing string up in a tree.

i started hunting in the hunts in the early 70s as a young teen hunting against men i beat them plenty ! why because hunts were 3 hours and the cream always rises to the top. dogs worked as a cast and all silent dogs were scratched thats the biggest difference between then and now today we overlook the rules about open trailors

Or you may be labeled as an honest handler who doesn't put up with any garbage. The last thing I'm worried about is being labeled a trouble maker or even being barred. Although I don't get to compete much anymore, in all the years I have gone to hunts i can only think of 2 cast where I felt I was grossly cheated. Only one of those was a buddy system vote, and one of those guys didn't have a clue what was going on. My losses usually came from poor performance from what I was leading.
