-- Hank Jr. a houndsman? (http://forums.ukcdogs.com/showthread.php?threadid=19656)

Hank Jr. a houndsman?

I heard that Hank Williams Jr. used to run Plotts. Any truth to that?

Also, I think it was Ray Stein who once posted that a former Raider great ran some Cascade Plotts. Was that right Ray?

A good hound dog will give his life for you. To return the favor is the least you can do.

Hank Jr

Yes. Bocephus used to hunt plotts and blueticks back in the 70's. Advertised quite a bit. I remember the last night of season in Bald Knob, Ar.......Raining cats and dogs, colder than a well diggers hind end and we'd had enough by 9:00 pm. Went to a diner and up pulls a traveling bus with lots of young ladies and the band..........This was in his wilder days....Very nice guy.....

Hank Jr. did competition hunt and advertised his hounds in Full cry. While on a hunt in Colorado with DeMoss and Larry Olin, Jr's Plott got ate by a Puma.

David Casper All Pro tight end of the Oakland Raiders used to hunt with De and Larry and Oliver Smith and purchased some of the remaining hounds that Oliver sold.

Ken Curtis (Festus on Gunsmoke)

I heard Ken Curtis used to hunt English hounds. I also heard Corey Feldman was a coon hunter. That was a little harder for me to believe.

Hey redneck coondog, is that the same Junior Johnson that got the full pardon from Pres Reagan (I think) in the '80's for his convictions as a moonshiner and a driver for his dad's moonshining outfit. If it is I saw a thing on the history channel the other day where they was talking to him about moonshining and ridgerunning and he said of all the cars he drove in the racing circuit (before it actually became NASCAR) the fastest car he ever drove was the car he delivered white lightning in. LOL

I've got a Hank Jr. story. A local redbone hunter in my area who had some good hounds back in the mid 70's named Cliff Parks. Cliff sold Hank Jr. a nice Redbone male. Cliff and the guy that got me started hunting, Larry Wortinger, used to visit Hank Jr. whenever he was touring in the area and check up on how the dog was doing. Wasn't too long after Hank got the dog that he told the story of how he accidentally run over and killed the dog. That's my Hank Jr. story.

Posted by Ray Stein on 04-15-2004 01:35 PM:

Alan, thats great that you saved that Ad, I remember when he ran a ad in Full Cry on his competition bred Walker dogs. Hank Jr musta really liked hunting with hounds overall as he sure did try a variety.

Ray ~ I've got three great big ring binders full of old Plott photos and ads I cut out of the Magazines, back to 1967 I believe. They take up a lot less room than all of those old magazines! LOL

Alan, wish I'd have know you collect that stuff, I had 10 boxes full of old magazines I'd have given you. Thats nice that you do that. I liked that I've gotta e-mail that ad to my buddy Larry as he used to hunt with De, Bob A and Hank Jr.

Outstanding! Thanks a bunch Alan. I just printed that out to show Grandpa. He was telling me just yesterday that Hank used to run some Cascade dogs and ran some ads about it, and wished he still had the old magazines that the ads were run in. How timely. The internet is absolutely amazing.

I WONDER WHY HE GOT AWAY FROM HOUNDS?

PROBABLY TO BUSY??

WOULD BE PRETTY COOL IF HE WAS STILL INVOLVED.
