We use panacure and Ivomec. In the spring we usually lay diazinon down in the yard and pens. We dont have any problems with ticks, fleas or worms.

Hi Steve,
I'm still waiting on you to come up here and do some hunting!!!!!!!! What I use all Spring Summer and Fall to kill the fleas and ticks is I have a sprayer that hooks up to our garden hose (like you spray miracle grow out of). I fill it with gas and spray all around the kennels inside and out. Then I take a rag and wipe the dogs down (just enough to wet the rag do not use to much) I never see fleas using this method once every week or two.

Justin

Use your worm as a decoy to lure them out.

what I use

Worms......I use the Srongid T that is sold as "Pamix" It contains 50mg pyrantel in each ml.so you dose 1 cc per 15-20 lbs.

Fleas and ticks .....I use a permectrin based Livestock spray around the pens and I have had good results with the Frontline spray on the dogs. I used to have a flea problem and would occasionally have to worm for tapeworms . Since I started using the frontline and eliminated the fleas around the pens I have not had a flea problem for several years and don't see evidence of tapeworms either . Frontline has done a god job for me in keeping the ticks off the dogs also . Now if I could just keep the darn things off of me . They have been terrible here lately .

The SafeGuard wormer contains Fenbendazole. It will kill the tapes that are aquired thru digestion of small rodents (taenia) sp??, but I dont think will kill the more common tapeworms that are associated with fleas (dipylidium). A tape wormer containing praziquantel will work for both.

Heartworm prevention ....I used to use the Interceptor but switched to Ivomec 1% for cattle and I dose at a rate of 1/10th CC per 10-15lbs orally.

Some will have different opinions on when to start a pup on heartworm prevention but for me it's Ivomec starting at around 6 months. Some will say earlier but I personally don't see the need.

This is just what I do , Hope it helps

Diazinon was banned in the USA. You can longer buy it legally. I was in the Pest industry for 10 years and sure did miss it when the EPA banned it.

Justin are you serious about the gas? I'm sure it would keep the bugs away but I can only imagine the headaches and naseua I would get breathing in all the fumes. Not to mention the fire hazard. do you have wooden dog houses?

subject

O.K guys,

The question has been asked about fleas and ticks, worms. But what about mites.???? I had an encounter last nite with a pack of coyotes. My young dog was treed near a den and in fact I saw three of the pups on my way running into the tree. I know coyotes have mites really bad and my dog was in the area of those wild dogs and actually put a pretty good wooooopeen on the mother coyote. but now I'm concerned about him having mites or the fact that they could be in my dog box. What can I use on the dog and in the box to prevent them or kill them all together?

Mites or Mange? If it's actually mange then there are 2 types. one is present all the time(demodex) but factors such as genetics, health, and stress can determine if a dogs natural immunity will fend them off. the other(sarcoptic or scabies) is infectious and a good quality flea dip should be enough. Just read the label. BTW scabies can be transmitted to humans.

Chrys

Where are you getting Diazinon? No one around here has it anymore, claim it has been band.

Christy, does the biospot not kill the hair it comes in contact with? I have tried it on two different occasions. Both times it has put a bald stripe all the way down the dogs backs. Have a friend that has had the same experience.
