Re: That's my concern as well as Todd

My concerns isn't that the standard might be the priority for change, but a higher level of education to what is in the standards. Example being... the TW breed standard reads on eye color "EYES: Moderately prominent; set well apart. Open, soft and expressive. Dark in color; brown or black." Where does it allow the color BLUE? Well I know of several that are shown, hold degrees, and are used for breeding programs. Don't you think we need to stop this. The dog doesn't meet the standard so why is it registered?
Tricia,
You had me right up until you start making statements that dogs that don't meet the breed standards should not be registered. I have seven generation pedigrees showing my dogs to be 100% purebred dogs, and a blue eyed pup that you have seen can run and tree his own coon....aside from the blue eye...he meets the breed standards, what makes you the breed police?
Most of the so called "bench show dogs" dont have the proper coat quality that the standards currently call for.
Coat
Smooth haired Glossy, fine, yet dense enough for protection. A close, hard, hound coat.
Defects Short, thin coat, or of soft quality.
Most importantly to me....
Qualitative Characteristics
Energetic, intelligent, active, curteous, composed, confident, fearless, kind, graceful in pose and while active. Super abundance of sense, endurance, trailing, hunting and treeing instinct and ability
How about this...at every bench show we have a treeing contest so that we can check the voice...vocal quality is also in the breed standard...how do you check that?
Please dont try to not register Walker hounds that are less than perfect for the bench.....If you want a reference, please look into the history of the Irish Setter....
