Can a young dog learn to track faster

I have a bluetick female 16 months old. I got her about two months ago from a competition hunter because she wasn't progressing fast enough for him and he had other dogs to work. She will show me a coon nearly every night I take her out and she almost never misses. ( A big difference from my Slick Treeing Walkers.) The problem is she is quite slow on the track. Sometimes she'll be tracking back and forth in a pasture until I wonder if she is rabbiting but then she'll eventually find a tree with a coon in it. My question is there a chance she'll get a little faster on track with more experience or not?

I have 6 year old that's slow. Like yours she trees a coon every time I hunt her. She doesn't backtrack. Extremely accurate. She was a lot faster before she was 18 months old. I've mostly hunted her by herself. I wonder if I had run her with other dogs. would she have been more competitive and tried to stay ahead. But I guess you know blueticks are not known for speed. I've been hunting her with a faster dog and she runs with him, but by herself, back in low gear.

Try keeping her in good timber for a good while away from pastures, in my opinion when a coon or family of coons feed in a pasture they are checking for mice or going from one cow pile to another or maybe small rabbits and this gives most dogs a problem especially a young one. This is just my opinion!
