Whata happend to hunters now days? Used to and I'm only 36 yrs old when a young man or young hunter needed a hound someone would give them a pup or young dog no questions asked. Now my nephew has been lied to 4 different times by reputable breeders about a pup. They didn't have to tell him they'd give him a pup but they did and each time I took him to get the pup he was promised they didn't have it or the ones they did have left were there picks. Now why tell us to come if your going to do the boy this way????? So angry with the direction coonhunting is going. Be lucky if this boy will ever try to hunt again.

Ridgerunner 1988 were do you live. I am in Mo have a nice Blue tic male 4 months old your nephew can have, Look up Lincoln the next generation in blue tjc stud dogs to see who the pup is breed. Bill Bird

I have two sons and a daughter that hunts a bit. If I had someone I cared about family or not and they needed a hound I would find something out of good dogs and buy it for them. I wouldn't recommend a puppy, if they don't have the money to buy a pup they sure don't have the money for shots, wormer, flea and tick med or even good feed. Find them a good quality old dog that the young person can just hunt and enjoy. Most people that haven't much experience probably shouldn't be trying to start a pup for their first dog.

I think you are wrong in your thinking . A younger gunter may not be able to come up with upfront money when pups are knocking 1000 to 1500 and more, but they can work enough to or have enough to afford feed and meds . Help a young hunter and just becouse they can't afford someone's 65 or 70 dollar a sack feed doesn't mean they can't get something that will suit the needs of the pup . Help these kids no better teacher than a pup and alot of time

Expecting to get one for free just because it is a young kid is also wrong.

I remember wanting a coondog so bad when I was a kid. 1 guy gave me an old, blind, cantankerous hound that was used up. Never treed a thing! When I was about 11 a guy gave me a hound that he called a cull, but we treed about a dozen coons that first winter. I thought he was topnotch! Unfortunately he got sick that spring and died. I took up trapping but it just wasn't the same. Finally when I was 14 I saved up $65.00 and bought my first coondog. We treed 4 coons and 96 possums that winter! I certainly appreciated the help everyone gave me, and every hound was a part of growing my love for hounds

Maybe not but it feels like we’ve been shamed because no one has given this kid a pup. Pro Tip: Don’t assume that someone owes you anything regardless of age of situation. Best Wishes!!!

If the young man may never hunt again because of this....he don't have the (FEVER) to last in this sport......but a man still should keep his word even if it cost him something.

When I was a young kid (long long, very long time ago, lol)... I had several pups given to me; however, not randomly... they were from guys I hunted with all the time- helped them with their dogs, got to know them well.

Coonhunting, like most things, is most valuable when it is experienced through a network of authentic relationships. Pour into those relationships first, and you will typically always have a good hound.

4 different people told him they would give him a pup and backed out after you got there? Something does not sound right about this story!!!! And if you was so worried about him getting one why not you buy him one?
