Help needed

I have a 9 month old English that is striking a trailing but hasn’t treed yet. I have been out of Coon hunting for about 15 years till I bought this pup at 8 weeks old. Quit because my kids were young and wanted to dedicate all my off time to them. Now they are older and I’m trying to get back into it. I live in north Mississippi and my dog needs to go with an older dog but can’t find anyone to go with. All my older hunting buddies have quit or passed on. Any help on what I should be doing or just keep carrying him alone and let him figure it out on his own?

If you can find someone that has a good broke dog with no bad habits I'd take pup with the old dog. Otherwise, just keep taking him to the woods. If he's got what it takes, he'll figure out the treeing part. He's still just a baby at 9 months old.

Live trap a coon and let it go where your dog, while tied back, can see it go up a tree. I’d wet the coon down with a little water a few minutes before letting it go.

Make sure the dog sees the coon go up the tree. Then I’d take the dog on a lead over to the tree. Hopefully he stretches up on it and smells it all over and starts to bark on the scent.

Personally, I’d prefer to see a young dog start trailing before treeing.

Thanks, he is striking and trailing it’s just he hasn’t figured out that it’s going up a tree and eventually he just comes back to me but he is staying on a track longer and longer each time. Last time out he struck in carried it 150 yards out then seemed to loose it in a slew about 20 minutes later.

X2 - I like to hear a good race. Sounds like he's not too far from putting it together. He'll jump on a hot coon track one of these nights and tree it. Probably never look back after that.
