How To Make A Sewing Machine Protection Cover
A good sewing machine for beginners is not something you take for granted but this is a prized possession for your skills. Many people never pay attention to the needs of their sewing machine like cleaning and oiling. These things can increase the durability as well as the efficiency of your sewing machine and you can visibly feel the difference.
But if you are careless when it comes to the sewing machine like you don’t clean the lint often, you don’t save your machine from the dust and if you never do oiling of your machine then definitely in few months sewing machine is going to be dull and jammed. You may need to spend extra money on the repair and service of it which is not so cheap.
For the protection of the sewing machine, a cover is really important in order to save it from dust and other damages. You can sew the cover in your sewing space in no time and it will help you in handling the machine as well. Co-ordinate with me and follow me step-by-step on how to design a sewing machine cover.
Let’s make a cover for your beginner sewing machine.

How To Make A Sewing Machine Protection Cover
Measurement
As always there is nothing without the measurement, even you can’t design a great cover for your sewing machine without proper measurements. For preparing the cover of the sewing machine, you may need to measure the width and height of your sewing machine. Make sure to lose 1 inch of the cover, it should not be tight enough because it can cause you a problem in fitting and removing.
Make sure you are measuring the depth of the sewing machine as well to determine how much you have to leave the space inside the cover. You can choose any thick fabric for the cover and don’t forget to prepare the garment before you start sewing it for the cover.
Cutting
In total, you have to cut the 5 pieces, the main cover, 2 sides, the handle opening, and the pocket. These are the five pieces you should cut for the cover and observe the dimension of each piece properly to avoid a blunder. You can use several cutting tools like scissors or a rotary cutter for the proper cutting but if you think you have a handshaking problem then you should always use a rotary cutter.
At the time of cutting the main cover into a straight line, you should use chalk or invisible ink for the line. If you will draw the line with the help of the ruler then it will be easy for you to cut the exact piece and follow the line. It would be hard for you as a beginner to cut a straight line without any guide or line. To avoid any mistakes, take safety measures, and even from this project, you are going to learn a lot about the technical things of sewing.
Sewing Pocket
In the cover, the pocket is important as you can include different tools in your cover like scissors, cuter, or threads so they can travel along with your machine. Now start sewing the pocket to the front side of the cover. Sew the pocket square in the cover and fold the sides of the pocket to give it a fluffy look. The stitching must not be visible from the sides and it will give messy look to the cover. Use the same thread for the cover as its color.
Due to the size of the sewing machine, you don’t have to cut down the large pieces of fabric. Use a thick piece of piping on the edge of the pocket and you can use a few decorative stitches to prominent the area if you want it to look different. It depends on your choice whether you want it to be funky or a sober cover but it must be strong to bear the weight of the machine.

The Other Parts
Once you are done with the pocket part on the front side, now it’s time to join the next parts. Start sewing other edges to each other to give it a proper look. It would be good if you will take measurements one more time before sealing the edges. Stitch the edges of the fabric neatly so that there must be no threads or fabric turning outward. Cut the extra threads which are on the outward size.
Repeat the whole process for the second size and once you are done with both sides of the cover, start moving the cover inward to outward and outward to inward to check the pressure on the fabric and if there is any problem in the folding or using the cover. If it’s perfect on moving it means half of your work is done now.
Handle
Now at the top of the cover add a handle that must be thick enough. Cut the straps from the garment and start stitching it on the top. Stitch from the inward side and you can sew the handle with your hand because it doesn’t require a lot of effort. Use small stitches by hand to make it strong and durable.
You can add clippers as well if you think the fabric strap is not going to work for you. If you want to make It fancy, you can buy different handles from the market and sew them with the help of a good starter sewing machine. At the time of packing the sewing machine in your cover, make sure you are having the weight test. Once you are done, your cover is ready and you can add stickers on it as well.
Conclusion
Sewing machine cover is one of the basic projects one can attempt who has started the sewing recently. You can practice stitching and cutting by preparing several machine covers.
