I’ve used it for years and haven’t seen any issues.

Had to ask. Last time I used as my dogs bedding my dog turned into a no trailing fool. I googled the same question I've asked you fellas and found out that many bird dog hunters said that it hindered the bird dogs scenting ability. 🤷

Cheyenne won't use them. With dogs on flea and tick meds these days there is no need for cedar chips. If you want something for your dog to lay on in the dog house use mats made for dog boxes. They will also add some extra insulation in the winter under straw.

I've used cedar chips for years with no ill effects other than the mess it makes in the kennel.

Cedar chips release a toxin if they get wet. It won't hurt a healthy dog but if they have a health issue you are not aware of it can kill them. It causes a respiratory infection that kills them in 48 hrs. I killed on 20 yrs ago on them. I had taken my 1st coonhound to the vet 3 times in 6 months because he would get tired in a hr of hunting he was done. The vet kept telling me he was fine just a big dog. I put him on cedar chips and he got them wet coming in and out of the dog house. I came home from work it had be high 80's that day, thought maybe he got over heated. Took him to the pond to cool off. A few hrs later his breathing got hard, got him to the vet ( a new one) 1st thing in the morning, he died within and hr. Had him sent off to OSU because they said they never seen something spread in the lungs that fast. He had been born with an enlarged heart. So his body couldn't fight off the toxin the cedar chips release.

X2......Used it for 40+ years and not one issue with it.
I doubt Cedar does anything to a dogs ability to Smell. Can you imagine how many types of Smells a dog comes in contact with while hunting ....Including Cedar ?
They are built to tolerate it.....!!!

Flat out truth is, some dogs are allergic to cedar chips! Just because someone on here tells you that they never had a problem with cedar doesn't mean you won't have problems with it. I had a female that I started bedding her with cedar chips that immediately had reaction s,runny nose and eyes gumming up. Switched back to orchard grass hay and cleared right up. SO, if you think the cedar chips might be causing a problem, just change the bedding and answer it yourself. Easy fix.

x2 That is the truth. I've had two dogs in my lifetime that were allergic to them and some dogs just dislike them so much they'll sleep outside their doghouse to avoid them.

If my house smelled like that I would sleep outside.
