Ear Problem/Solutions

A friend of mine has a Two Year old dog that seems to have a very bad ear/head shaking issue that he has had since a 4-5 month old pup. He has treated this issue through two different vets, and has spent between 200-400 dollars trying to cure this issue.. The latest vet told him a few months back that this was an allergy issue and told him a specific brand of dog food to feed, of which he has been feeding with no results. Problem seems to be getting a little worse since he went away from ointments and started treating for allergies.

My question is for those with a lot of experience in this area.

What (in Your opinion) is the VERY BEST product for treating a sever head shaking issue. And what is your recommendation for how to apply what ever solution you are recommending??

My buddy will sure appreciate any/all feedback. He is Near 70 yrs old and has owned hounds most all his life but this issue with this hound has him stumped. Thanks so much for any/all feedback

I have a 2 year old male that would bark and shake his head like he had ear problems. Vet says nothing wrong with his ears but still adds ear ointment to the bill. Used the ointment and still was shaking his head. I remembered that my brother always swore by using water and white vinegar at a 50/50 mix. I put this in his ears every day for at least a week then every other day for another week. Has something to do with the ph. I put it in his ears 1x a month now. May not work for his.

I’m by no means a vet but I also have a dog with ear trouble. The vet said it’s ear mites and one treatment should fix it 2 at best. Long story short, I have been using toilet paper and very carefully q-tips to clean the gunk looking crap out of her ear and then I flush her ears with peroxide and then water. So far it is helping my dog but I’m also fixing to order some of the EarSolve solution

Earsolve from Kevin

My opinion you won't go wrong! Will get rid of ear mites and clean ears. Might say it is all purpose ear treatment. I have also used for fleas. Good Stuff!

X2 Ear Solve by far best I've used! If you can't find it I get mine at Harris Hound Supply. My dogs coat was horrible, stunk like road kill and just felt greasy and nasty when I'd pet him and that smell got on me. Long story short 7 days straight of using it and after it says 1 a month or as needed but I use it once a week no more problems and now looks like a show dog and NO MORE STINK! STUFF WORKS fixed a whole host of problems with my dog... but didn't make him a world nite champion yet! Oh well 1 problem at a time I guess

About 3 years ago I had a bad problem with ear infections…it turned out the dog food I was feeding for many years changed and was causing the issue among other issues…swapped dog food and problems cleared up…

Ear mites…2 cc’s of ivomec mixed in with a little food…repeating a week later with 1.5 cc’s ivomec…

The dog will heal pretty quick if it is ear mites…

Get you some of the regular. Blue listerine Mouth wash
Put in ears strait 2 times a week. For two weeks turn head sideways so it will get deep . Massage in
It will fix you’re problem . I spent about 500 hundred dollars on one at the vet with no luck . A 90 year old coon hunter told me this trick . As I was about to get rid of dog because of the problem . Was causing him to fo stupid stuff when you took him hunting . That’s been 2 years ago
Never had another problem

8 oz. Alcohol-. 2 oz.white vinegar- 1/2 table spoon boric acid-1 teaspoon provodone iodine. Mix well use a couple times a week until healed once a month maintenance or as needed. Been using this for years with great results. Can get all supplies at Walmart and make it dirt cheap.

LISTERINE, 2 OR 3 CC'S DOWN EACH EAR AND MASSAGE IT IN, IT IS A ANTICEPTIC, IT'LL DRY THE EARS, IT'LL KILL ANY BUGS, IT'LL HEAL THE RAW SORENESS FROM BEING SORE FOR SO LONG, TWO OR THREE DAYS SHOULD SEE A BIG DIFFERENCE, OH AND HOLD THE EAR UP SO THE LISTERINE GOES ALL THE WAY DOWN IN EAR CANAL. GOOD LUCK

Do not rule out a dental issue. Had one years ago that I thought had ear issues. Multiple treatments in ears did nothing. Had a savvy Vet think to check teeth. Had several bad teeth which the Vet pulled. Problem fixed after that. Problem started when the dog was 2 years old.
