Live trap

I've been live trapping some nuisance coon for a friend but now have a fox stealing the bait. Saw him on camera. He gets the bait but doesn't spring the trap. Any suggestions?

What are you using for bait? I always had trouble with possums and cats until I started using marshmallows. Coons love 'em and very little else in the wild will eat them.

Put bait under trap. Put some weight or a piece of rebar thru trap into ground so can't move or tip over trap. Might try to dig under trap so put bait in the middle of trap. Make them have to work to get bait.

I use the bottom of one them small round galvanized chick feeders that you would screw a mason jar onto.
I u-bolt mine but you can just wire it to the back/inside of trap and stuff marshmallows in the holes ..... they have to work to get the bait out and always end up tripping the pan. Best modification you can do to a live trap imo

some good ideas posted above. I usually just grab a stick and put through bait and into the dirt. Just stakes it down a bit so they have to work a bit.

zip tie it to bottom/rear of trap should work too.

I like the chick feeder idea too. 5 bucks at rural king.

A suet bird feeder, wire tied at the back of the trap works great. Put your bait in and snap it shut.

I always put 1 or 2 under the pan or trigger plate (whatever u want to call it) . By doing this, they have to kinda dig at it which will trip the trap.

Well this is a little amusing. Caught two fox in separate traps last night but the property owner wanted to just let them go. So don't know if I can get rid of any more nuisance coon, lol. Maybe the fox won't want to get caught again.

I always have luck with hunny buns,. Although I never caught a fox with them, they might eat them. Get something fox won't eat. I'd sour some corn and put a small can full in the back of your trap. Who knows might work.

Is there any spot you can trap for him where you can get it up off the ground? In a barn or shed? Places coon can climb but fox can't.

Tom- pretty impressed you caught TWO fox in a live trap , they typically wont go in one very well. Ive done it ONCE in my life and it was un-intentional as well. I bet you wont catch em again .
