Have You Ever?

Had old dog and 2 pups treeing on huge oak. Saw 2 sets eyes in the top while walking in. Had female running hot in bean field 250 yards to the west. I'm petten & sicken the pups on the tree. Dogs are all on north east side of tree. Here comes a coon and right up the tree on the south side. A matter of seconds my female hits the tree. Anyone ever had this happen?

I'm just a pleasure hunter but would like to know how this tree would be scored. Tree would have been closed when female got there.

Randi

Now that's something to think about, especially if it happened in a night hunt. Dave

Wow. Good question. Rules say "tree scored" .. not coon.. ok, nite hunt experts. According to the rules, I say bad break, tree has been scored. My gut would love to plus it up only because you saw the coon climb. But rules are rules.

Bad deal but

If the rules made an opening for this, for every once in a lifetime happening there be a million times it was used to slick handle someone else. Just have to laugh and remember there's always next time. Pat the ole dog on the head and tell her she looked good. Besides I'll let you in on a secret, most dogs can't read the score card to yell and argue about how it was scored.

Nextcoonhunters & Dogwhisper or Anyone

Next questions: How long is tree closed? Alnight? Until scored and recut? Can a tree be scored more than once with different dog later in hunt?

Tree closed

It's my understanding that a scored tree can not be scored on again during that cast hunt time. So if you score a tree next to the truck and at the end of the hunt 1hr - 2hrs later a dog trees on it again it can't be scored. Double-header next round you recut same place dog trees same tree, good to go. Score it and move on.
