coons and chocolate

can coons safely eat chocolate? I've heard that it is toxic to dogs. I know some people bate bears with chocolate and coons are related to bears. I have a few boxes of baking chocolate and thought the coons might benefit from it.

I think so too. My dogs love mike chocolate too but everyone declares that it is bad for them. That is my concern for the coons. Will it be a benefit or harm the coon.

don't put it where your hounds can get to it. A lady near me who bakes a lot lost a bluetick to baking chocolate the hound got to in her kitchen when she was out.

After Thanksgiving I was given a bunch of cakes and things. I just give it all to my puppies and dang near killed all of them it took a month for them to get over it. So now I just feed that kind of stuff to the coons and bears.

My friend had a peanut M@M dispenser in his mechanic shop. Almost everybody that got M@M's would give the watch dog one or two. I'm not sure if that's what killed him, but if it was the chocolate, it took 14 1/2 years.

I share chocolate ice cream with my dogs and little other chocolate here and there but not much. it doen't seem to bother them. I think quality of life is important too. I want my dogs to enjoy lots of different tastes. But not too much of any of it.

We have a big M@M Mars plant close so everyone gets the excess/floor sweepings. We have fed M@M's in 55 gal barrel coon feeders for years. They love it and it doesn't hurt them.
The Little Debbie plant is located here too so we have fed granola also.

But my dogs eat dog food.

chocolate and Dogs

dont know but I was told a long time ago by a vet that it was toxic to dogs. I like to give mine a treat along the way but I bypass this one. Hey Kid aren't you the one from Stella a couple of yrs ago. If so how about some fishing info. where to fish for trout this time of year up there.

If I find out you're using M&M's for coon bait, my picture might show up on your game camera.

Coons love Peanut M@M's. They will come from miles away to get them. I once found an M@M chocolate ball as big as a softball. I shaved the outside off and ate on it for 2 weeks.

The component in chocolate that is harmful is theobromine. Theobromine poisoning in black bear cubs and raccoons has been documented in Michigan and Pennsylvania.

This resulted from large amounts of chocolate used in bear baits, and as one might suspect it is more evident in young animals.

The one thing to remember about poisons is the dose matters. Very good examples are alcohol and Tylenol. Both are technically poisons, but by reducing the dose both can be consumed by humans. If your liver is already compromised alcohol's and Tylenol use can contribute to death.

I will give only small pieces from time to time. When one is starving, chocolate is good for you.
