Top/bottom?
A little history on the bottom storage. Back in around 2000 or 2001 I made a custom bottom storage dog box to match my Impact Blue Dodge Ram 1500. It took me a couple months to come up with the design and put it together. Anyhow, I got it finished and attended Autumn Oaks that year. I can't count the people who stopped by and asked where I got the box and what company built it. The next year when I attended AO, some of the bigger companies were making them. They may have had the idea first and it really doesn't matter but I made the first one I ever saw. I've made several sense then, top storage, bottom storage but the one I use now has no storage and is for a small truck and I have taken the doors off. The handiest thing I've ever used. I have a cap on the back of my 04 Tacoma 4 door and when I raise the back lid they can stick their heads out so you can collar them up or leash them without them bailing out on you. Also, I don't make mine too high for the dog to stand. Usually, around 18" inside. I've hulled 80+ lb. hounds in them with no problem. I want mine to lay down when I travel. Standing all the time will ware on a dog. Could you imagine going to a hunt 4/5 hours away and having to stand in a moving vehicle. It's much more important to keep the dog hydrated, cool/warm and comfortable, IMO. I also insulate all the box's I build which helps with sun and cold. Top storage, bottom storage or no storage depends on your likes or dislikes and style of hunting. Get what fits you and your style and go with it. Happy hunting .
