Thyroid Tumor ?

Anybody had a tumor removed from their hound ?
I have a 7 yr old dog with a swell/knot on his neck & vet has referred me/dog to UT Vet school. Other than downhill performance, the dog is healthy & no pain
Surgery or radiation treatments is the options I have been given which cost could be $5000 +/-
The $$$$ would be a BIG dent in my fixed income but I am more interested in recovery as to dog's health & performance
UT Vet school did give me a contact of a person with a border collie who had this procedure (Radiation) she told me the dog recovered well but dog was very lazy & a house pet now
Preliminary visit & diagnosis at UT next Monday
Thanks for any replies

Thyroid

Thanks for input
I had heard of Tumeric several years ago but had forgot about it, will check it out
$5000 is too much I agree for this situation but that is the high end
Initial consultation & diagnosis Monday will be deciding factor if we go farther
My research indicates the recovery to original ability may be in question, just very little info available
